nor will they see it. They will not truly see things, entities, and characteristics in the nature of non-things, up to emptiness. They will not truly see the mindfulnesses in terms of things, entities, and characteristics. They will not truly see the perfect abandonments, the legs of magical power, the faculties, the powers, the limbs of enlightenment, and the eightfold noble path in terms of things, entities, and characteristics. They will not truly see the noble truths, the meditations, the immeasurables, and the formless absorptions in terms of things, entities, and characteristics. They will not truly see the eight liberations, the nine successive abidings, emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, and the various superknowledges in terms of things, entities, and characteristics. They will not truly see the various samādhis and the doors of dhāraṇī in terms of things, entities, and characteristics. They will not truly see the ten powers of the Tathāgata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, and the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha in terms of things, entities, and characteristics. Up to the all-knowingness, they will not truly see things, entities, and characteristics, because they do not truly see the things, entities, and characteristics of all dharmas, so they do not cling to any dharma, and they act as they speak. They will not dedicate those roots of virtue to the Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas, but will dedicate them together with all sentient beings to unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment, and they will dedicate them in such a way that the three concepts of how they dedicate, what they dedicate, and where they dedicate do not arise. Noble son, in this way, a Bodhisattva Mahāsattva abides in the perfection of diligence and upholds the perfection of wisdom. Question: Blessed One, how does a Bodhisattva Mahāsattva abide in the perfection of meditation and uphold the perfection of giving? The Blessed One said:

Granted. Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva dwells in the first dhyana, which is secluded from desires, secluded from evil and unwholesome dharmas, accompanied by thought and examination, and filled with joy and bliss born of seclusion. When thought and examination are stilled, he dwells in the second dhyana, which is inwardly purified, a unification of the mind, without thought or examination, and filled with joy and bliss born of concentration. When he is free from attachment to joy, he dwells in equanimity, mindful and fully aware, experiencing pleasure with the body, of which the noble ones say, 'He dwells in equanimity, mindful and experiencing pleasure.' He dwells in the third dhyana, which is without joy. When he has abandoned pleasure and abandoned suffering, and when joy and sorrow have already ceased, he dwells in the fourth dhyana, which is neither pleasure nor suffering, pure in equanimity and mindfulness. He also dwells in the same way in the sphere of nothingness up to the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. Having dwelt in that perfection of meditation, with an unscattered mind, he completely gives those sentient beings material gifts and Dharma gifts, and also encourages others to give material gifts and Dharma gifts. He speaks of the merits of material gifts and Dharma gifts. Furthermore, he rejoices and praises the merits of those who give material gifts and Dharma gifts, but he does not dedicate those roots of virtue to the ground of hearers or solitary realizers. Instead, he shares them with all sentient beings and dedicates them to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Subhuti, in this way, how does that Bodhisattva-Mahasattva dedicate without the three concepts of who dedicates, what is dedicated, and to whom it is dedicated? In this way, he dedicates completely. Subhuti, in this way, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva dwells in the perfection of meditation and practices

is to fully embrace the perfection of morality. Question: World Honored One, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abide in the perfection of meditation and fully embrace the perfection of morality? The World Honored One said: Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abides in the perfection of meditation, and does not generate a mind filled with desire, does not generate a mind filled with anger, does not generate a mind filled with ignorance, and does not generate a mind filled with harm. Otherwise, they act with a mind that possesses all-knowing wisdom, and do not dedicate those roots of virtue to the ground of the Hearers or the Solitary Buddhas. Otherwise, they share it with all sentient beings and dedicate it to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. Thus, they dedicate it without engaging in the three concepts of how one dedicates, what one dedicates, and where one dedicates. Subhuti, in this way, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abides in the perfection of meditation and fully embraces the perfection of morality. Question: World Honored One, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abide in the perfection of meditation and fully embrace the perfection of patience? The World Honored One said: Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abides in the perfection of meditation, and thoroughly understands form as like foam, feeling as like a water bubble, perception as like a mirage, formations as like a plantain tree, and consciousness as like an illusion. Thus, they separately observe the five aggregates of grasping, and abide in the understanding that there is no essence. When they thus separately observe, they think: Even if limbs are cut off, who uses them? Who is cut? Whose action is the body? Whose feeling is the feeling? Whose perception is the perception? Whose formation is the formation? Whose consciousness is the consciousness? Thus, when they separately observe in this way, they think: If one acts or jokes with whom, such that a mind of harm arises, like that.
