And without focusing on the limbs of meditation, dedicate them in that way. Subhuti, in that way, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abiding in the perfection of patience is one who upholds the perfection of meditation. Asked: Blessed One, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abiding in the perfection of patience uphold the perfection of wisdom? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abiding in the perfection of patience, when all phenomena are in the aspect of solitude, or the aspect of peace, or the aspect of non-exhaustion, observes and abides according to the Dharma, but does not manifest that Dharma-nature until abiding in the essence of enlightenment. Even after abiding in the essence of enlightenment, one attains the knowledge of all aspects. Having risen from that, one also turns the wheel of Dharma, and having made those roots of virtue common with all sentient beings, one dedicates them to the unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment. How does one dedicate to that with which of the three kinds of consciousness? What does one dedicate? Where does one dedicate? One dedicates in such a way that such thoughts do not arise. Subhuti, in that way, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abiding in the perfection of patience is one who upholds the perfection of wisdom, and in whatever way one does not abandon or grasp, that is how one upholds. Asked: Blessed One, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abiding in the perfection of diligence uphold the perfection of generosity? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abiding in the perfection of diligence does not abandon the diligence of body and mind, saying, 'If I do not manifest the unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment, I will not give up. I will certainly not be deceived by demons, and I will surely manifest the unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment.' Thus, for the sake of sentient beings, either one koti, or a hundred kotis, or a thousand kotis, or a koti

Hundreds of thousands, or the world, or between hundreds of thousands of worlds, abiding in the perfection of diligence, and in a small way, also establishing some beings in enlightenment. If someone does not encounter the Bodhisattva Vehicle, then among these people, those of the Hearer Vehicle will abide in the Hearer Ground. Those of the Solitary Buddha Vehicle will abide in the Solitary Buddha Ground. In a small way, they can also establish some beings in the path of the ten virtuous actions. Having given these Dharma gifts, he satisfies beings with material gifts. That root of virtue is not dedicated to the Hearer Ground or the Solitary Buddha Ground. Otherwise, it is made common with all beings and dedicated to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. It is dedicated in such a way that the three concepts of who dedicates, what is dedicated, and where it is dedicated do not arise. Subhuti, in this way, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva abides in the perfection of diligence and fully grasps the perfection of generosity. Question: Blessed One, how does the Bodhisattva Mahasattva abide in the perfection of diligence and fully grasp the perfection of discipline? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, here, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, from the moment of first generating the mind, until abiding at the Bodhi tree, I have also abandoned killing. Furthermore, I also encourage others to abandon killing, and I praise the benefits of abandoning killing. For those who have abandoned killing, I also praise their merits and rejoice with them. I have also abandoned taking what is not given. Furthermore, I also encourage others to abandon taking what is not given, and I praise the benefits of abandoning taking what is not given. For those who have abandoned taking what is not given, I also praise their merits and rejoice with them. I have also abandoned sexual misconduct.
