Even if there is no son, however, each child, those who are not proficient in the noble Dharma, do not understand that all dharmas are without inherent existence. Because the mind arising from perversion manifestly performs various actions, their bodies are thus manifestly accomplished in the same way. That is, sentient beings in hell, or the realm of animals, or the world of Yama, or humans, or the gods of the Four Great Kings, or the Thirty-three, or the No Strife, or the Joyful, or the Delightful Transformation, or the Other-Created Wielding Power, or the Brahma Host, or the Brahma Retinue, or the Great Brahma, or the Small Light, or the Immeasurable Light, or the Clear Light, or the Small Virtue, or the Immeasurable Virtue, or the Universal Purity, or the Cloudless, or the Merit-Born, or the Unconscious Sentient Beings, or the Non-Abandoning, or the Non-Afflicted, or the Well-Appearing, or the Good-Looking, or the Akanishta gods, or the Space of Infinite Space, or the Space of Infinite Consciousness, or the Space of Nothing Whatsoever, or the gods of the Space of Neither Perception Nor Non-Perception, in the midst of these, the body is manifestly accomplished. For that which is without inherent existence, there is no action, no deed, and no result. Whatever is without inherent existence, that is without inherent existence itself. Subhuti, there is this saying: For that which is without inherent existence, there is no action whatsoever. By what action does a sentient being go to hell, or go to the realm of animals, or go to the world of Yama, or be born as a human, or be born as a god of the Four Great Kings, or the Thirty-three, or the No Strife, or the Joyful, or the Delightful Transformation, or the Other-Created Wielding Power, or the Brahma Host, or the Brahma Retinue, or the Great Brahma, or the Small Light, or the Immeasurable Light, or the Clear Light, or the Small Virtue, or the Immeasurable Virtue, or the Universal Purity, or the Cloudless, or the Merit-Born, or the Great Fruit, or the Unconscious Sentient Beings, or the Non-Abandoning, or the Non-Afflicted, or the Well-Appearing, or the Good-Looking, or be born as a god of Akanishta, or the Space of Infinite Space, or the Space of Infinite Consciousness, or the Space of Nothing Whatsoever, or be born as a god of the Space of Neither Perception Nor Non-Perception, or attain the fruit of stream-enterer, or

If it is said that there is nothing like attaining the fruit of stream-entry, or attaining the fruit of once-returning, or attaining Arhatship, or attaining solitary enlightenment, or a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practicing the Bodhisattva path, or attaining omniscience, or after attaining it, being able to completely liberate sentient beings from samsara. Subhuti, what do you think? Is the path not without substance? Is the fruit of stream-entry not without substance? The fruit of once-returning, the fruit of non-returning, Arhatship, solitary enlightenment, are they not without substance? Even omniscience, is it not without substance? He replied: Bhagavan, the path is without substance. The fruit of stream-entry is without substance. The fruit of once-returning, the fruit of non-returning, Arhatship, solitary enlightenment, are without substance. Even omniscience is without substance. The Bhagavan said: Subhuti, what do you think? Does one non-substantial dharma attain another non-substantial dharma? He replied: Bhagavan, that is not so. The Bhagavan said: Subhuti, in that case, whatever is non-substantial, and the path, these two dharmas are neither in conjunction nor disjunction, without form, invisible, unimpeded, of one characteristic, that is, without characteristics. Subhuti, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, with skillful means, he causes sentient beings with the four inversions, who are attached to the five aggregates, who perceive permanence in impermanence, who perceive happiness in suffering, who perceive self in non-self, who perceive purity in impurity, who are attached to reality as real, to be liberated from reality. This is the activity of abandoning inversions. Subhuti asked: Bhagavan, what is it that ordinary people cling to as real?
