Only the absence of self, and the absence of self of phenomena, and suchness, and the ultimate limit, this is the form of dharmata. This is the feeling of dharmata, perception, formations, and consciousness. These are the intervals between the dharmata's Buddha-dharmas. Maitreya asked: Blessed One, how should one view these three forms as being without substance? What is without substance? What is neither without substance nor with substance, and is distinguished by the ultimate truth? These three feelings, these three perceptions, these three formations, these three consciousnesses, and among the three intervals of the Buddha-dharmas, which is without substance? Which is with substance? What is neither without substance nor with substance, and is distinguished by the ultimate truth? The Blessed One said: Maitreya, whatever is the form that is completely imputed, that should be viewed as without substance. Whatever is the form that is completely dependent, because discrimination is with substance, therefore it should be viewed as with substance, but not because it arises independently. Whatever is the form of dharmata, that should be viewed as neither without substance nor with substance, but as distinguished by the ultimate truth. Maitreya, whatever is the feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness that are completely imputed, and whatever is the interval of the Buddha-dharmas that is completely imputed, all of those should be viewed as without substance. Whatever is the feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness that are completely dependent, and whatever is the interval of the Buddhas that is completely dependent, because discrimination is with substance, therefore it should be viewed as with substance, but not because it has become independent. Maitreya, whatever is the feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness of dharmata, and Maitreya, whatever is the interval of the Buddha-dharmas of dharmata, all of those should be viewed as neither without substance nor with substance, but as distinguished by the ultimate truth. Maitreya asked: Blessed One, is what is called form dualistic?

It is counted as non-dual. For example, what is called feeling, what is called perception, what is called formations, what is called consciousness, and even the dharmas of the Buddhas, these are counted as non-dual. The Blessed One spoke these words, with what intention did the Blessed One say: What is called form, that is counted as non-dual. For example, what is called feeling, what is called perception, what is called formations, what is called consciousness, and even the dharmas of the Buddhas, these are said to be counted as non-dual. The Blessed One said: Maitreya, what do you think? In the form of the completely imputed, what is the nature of non-substantiality, is that form or not? Answer: Blessed One, that is not. Then, what is called form, which is merely name, concept, designation, and term, what is that? Is it form? Answer: Blessed One, that is not. Maitreya, in this way, the form of the completely imputed is neither form nor non-form. Whatever is neither form nor non-form, that is non-dual. I intended this when I said: Whatever is called form, that is counted as non-dual, it should be understood. Maitreya, what do you think? Relying on what, does the name, designation, and term of what is called form become, the form of the separately established, what is the nature of reality, is that not non-form? Answer: Blessed One, that is not. Maitreya, what do you think? On the form of the separately established itself, the form of the completely imputed, is not its essence, nor its characteristic, what is that? Is it form? Answer: Blessed One, that is not. Maitreya, in this way, whatever is the form of the separately established, is neither form nor non-form. Whatever is neither form nor non-form, that is non-dual. I intended this when I said: What is called form, that is counted as non-dual.

It should be known that it is granted. Maitreya, what do you think? Is that form, which is thoroughly distinguished by the selflessness of the form of Dharma-nature, what is form? He replied: World Honored One, it is not. Is that form of Dharma-nature itself, which is the Dharma-nature of form, not form? He replied: World Honored One, it is not. Maitreya, by this analogy, whatever is the form of Dharma-nature is neither form nor non-form. Whatever is neither form nor non-form is non-dual. I contemplate this, like this: that which is called "form" has been counted as a non-dual number. Likewise, it should be applied to the feelings, perceptions, formations, consciousness, and all the dharmas of the Buddhas. Maitreya asked: World Honored One, a Bodhisattva who practices the Perfection of Wisdom, being skilled in the characteristic of non-duality of form, and being skilled in the characteristic of non-duality of feelings, perceptions, formations, consciousness, and all the dharmas of the Buddhas, having abandoned the two extremes and entered the Middle Way, what is the characteristic of complete knowledge? What is the characteristic of abandonment? What is the characteristic of manifestation? How does one view the characteristic of cultivation? The World Honored One said: Maitreya, a Bodhisattva who practices the Perfection of Wisdom, having abandoned the two extremes, thus enters the Middle Way, whatever is form is neither completely known nor not completely known, that is its complete knowledge. Feelings, perceptions, formations, consciousness, and all the dharmas of the Buddhas are neither completely known nor not completely known, that is its complete knowledge. Whatever is form is neither abandoned, that is its abandonment. Whatever is feelings, perceptions, formations, consciousness, and all the dharmas of the Buddhas is neither abandoned nor not abandoned, that is its abandonment. Whatever is form, abandonment is neither manifest nor not manifest, that
