Will be manifestly, perfectly, completely awakened into enlightenment. Subhuti, furthermore, you should say this: If all dharmas are empty of intrinsic nature, how should a bodhisattva mahasattva act? How should they practice? What are worldly dharmas? What are supramundane dharmas? What are defiled dharmas? What are undefiled dharmas? What are conditioned dharmas? What are unconditioned dharmas? What are the dharmas of ordinary beings? What are the dharmas of stream-enterers? What are the dharmas of once-returners, non-returners, and arhats? What are the dharmas of solitary realizers? What are the dharmas of bodhisattvas? What are the dharmas of buddhas? How should one differentiate the dharmas in this way? Subhuti, what do you think? Do these sentient beings know that all dharmas are empty? If they know, then the bodhisattva mahasattva should also study all dharmas, but would not attain all-knowingness. Subhuti, because these sentient beings do not know that all dharmas are empty, therefore, the bodhisattva mahasattva manifestly, perfectly, completely awakens into unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, and then establishes the dharmas and teaches the dharmas to sentient beings. This is the activity of establishing the bodhisattva path. Subhuti, when the bodhisattva mahasattva engages in the path of enlightenment, they should first thoroughly examine it in this way: Apart from conceptual designation, there is no dharma here that is intrinsically observable. Having thus realized the intrinsic nature of all dharmas, whether it be the perfections, or all the emptinesses, or the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, or the noble truths, or meditative stabilizations, or the immeasurables, or the formless absorptions, or the liberations, or the serial abidings in meditative stabilization, or emptiness, or signlessness, or wishlessness, or the superknowledges, or meditative concentration, or the gates of dharani, and so forth.

The ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the separate and correct knowledge, the great love, the great compassion, and the unmixed dharmas of the Buddhas, or the fruit of stream-enterer, or the fruit of once-returner, or the fruit of non-returner, or the state of Arhat, or self-awakening, or even up to the unsurpassed, perfect and complete awakening, he will not become attached to any dharma. Why is that? Because all dharmas are empty by their very nature, and emptiness itself does not become attached to emptiness. If emptiness itself has no object, what need is there to mention becoming attached to emptiness? Subhuti, therefore, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, without becoming attached to all dharmas, acts with all dharmas. He abides in this training and observes where these sentient beings act, and thus observes the realm of sentient beings' actions. He thinks, "Alas! These sentient beings act in unreal grasping. Alas! It is not difficult to liberate these sentient beings from unreal grasping." Then, with skillful means, he abides in the Perfection of Wisdom and teaches thus: "O sentient beings, come! Give alms! By this you will be endowed with enjoyment, but do not become arrogant with enjoyment, for there is no essence in it." Similarly, he exhorts them to keep the precepts: "O sentient beings, come! Keep the precepts! But do not become arrogant with the precepts, for there is no essence in it." Similarly, he exhorts them to practice patience: "O sentient beings, come! Practice patience! But do not become arrogant with patience, for there is no essence in it." Similarly, he exhorts them to exert effort: "O sentient beings, come! Exert effort! But do not become arrogant with effort, for there is no essence in it." Similarly, he exhorts them to practice concentration: "O sentient beings, come! Abide in concentration! But do not become arrogant with concentration, for there is no essence in it."

Likewise, choose wisdom. O sentient beings, come here! Meditate on wisdom! Even with wisdom, do not become arrogant! Because there is no essence in that. Likewise, choose all of emptiness. O sentient beings, come here! Meditate on emptiness! Even with emptiness, do not become arrogant! Because there is no essence in that. Likewise, choose the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment. O sentient beings, come here! Meditate on the factors of enlightenment! Even with those factors of enlightenment, do not become arrogant! Because there is no essence in that. Likewise, choose the noble truths, meditation, the four immeasurables, the formless absorptions, liberation, the successive abidings, emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, clairvoyance, samadhi, and the doors of dharani. O sentient beings, come here! Meditate on the doors of dharani! Even with those doors of dharani, do not become arrogant! Because there is no essence in that. Likewise, choose the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, great love, great compassion, and the unshared qualities of the Buddha. O sentient beings, come here! Meditate on the unshared qualities of the Buddha! Even with those unshared qualities of the Buddha, do not become arrogant! Because there is no essence in that. Likewise, choose the fruit of stream-entry. O sentient beings, come here! Meditate on the fruit of stream-entry! Even with the fruit of stream-entry, do not become arrogant!
