Venerable One, is attainment or realization or unsurpassed perfect enlightenment possible in the absence of an object of focus? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, because the realm of phenomena is without disturbance, it is only the absence of an object of focus that is attained. It is only the absence of an object of focus that is realized. It is only the absence of an object of focus that is unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Whoever desires attainment, realization, or unsurpassed perfect enlightenment in the absence of an object of focus, that person is simply desiring disturbance in the realm of phenomena. He said: Venerable One, if that is so, then in the absence of an object of focus, there is no attainment, no realization, no unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. If it is only the absence of an object of focus that is attained, only the absence of an object of focus that is realized, only the absence of an object of focus that is unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, then, Venerable One, where is the first bodhisattva great being ground? Where is the second ground? Where is the third ground? Where are the grounds up to the tenth? Where is the attainment of acceptance of phenomena as non-arising? Where are the superknowledges arising from maturation? Where is the giving arising from maturation? Where are the ethics, patience, effort, concentration, and wisdom arising from maturation? Where are the aspects of enlightenment arising from maturation? Where is abiding in those phenomena of maturation and accomplishing the maturation of sentient beings, the purification of Buddhafields, and the service to the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, with food, drink, clothing, bedding, palaces, implements, flowers, incense, perfumes, garlands, unguents, powders, Dharma robes, parasols, victory banners, streamers, lamps, garlands, and any other divine and human perfections, without those offerings ceasing until complete nirvana, and even when transformed into maturation for relics and hearers, they do not change? Venerable One, then for what reason does a bodhisattva

Wouldn't that cause the great realm of Dharma to be shaken? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, because of non-attachment, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva does not cause the realm of Dharma to be shaken. Because of this, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva has the first ground. Because of this, there is the second ground, the third ground, and up to the tenth ground. Because of this, there is the forbearance of non-arising dharmas. Because of this, there are superknowledges arising from maturation. Because of this, there are giving, ethics, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom arising from maturation. Because of this, there are the factors of enlightenment arising from maturation. Because of this, there are roots of virtue arising from maturation, and these roots of virtue cause the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva to fully ripen all sentient beings. They make the Buddha-field completely pure. They also attend to the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, with offerings of food, drink, clothing, bedding, palaces, utensils, flowers, incense, perfumes, garlands, ointments, powders, Dharma robes, umbrellas, banners, streamers, lamps, and any other abundance of gods and humans, and for them, even up to the relics of complete nirvana, and for the Hearers, even if they have matured, they will not be exhausted. He asked: Blessed One, what is the difference between non-attachment and giving, ethics, patience, diligence, meditation, wisdom, and superknowledges? What is the distinction? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, there is no distinction to be made between non-attachment and giving, ethics, patience, diligence, meditation, wisdom, and superknowledges. Subhuti, giving, ethics, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom without attachment.

And, it was shown how to distinguish the undefiled superknowledges, etc. Question: Blessed One, how should we distinguish the undefiled giving, ethics, patience, diligence, meditation, wisdom, and superknowledges? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, when a bodhisattva mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he does not fixate on giving, does not fixate on giving away, does not fixate on receiving, but gives. He does not fixate on ethics, but keeps ethics. He does not fixate on patience, but cultivates patience. He does not fixate on diligence, but exerts diligence. He does not fixate on samadhi, but enters into samadhi. He does not fixate on wisdom, but cultivates wisdom. He does not fixate on superknowledges, but engages in all the superknowledges. He does not fixate on the mindfulnesses, but engages in all the mindfulnesses. He does not fixate on the right abandonments, the legs of magical power, the faculties, the powers, the limbs of enlightenment, the path, but engages in the path. He does not fixate on the noble truths, the meditations, the immeasurables, the formless absorptions, but engages in all the formless absorptions. He does not fixate on the liberations, the gradual abiding absorptions, but engages in all the gradual abiding absorptions. He does not fixate on emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, but engages in wishlessness. He does not fixate on the superknowledges, the samadhis, the doors of dharani, the powers of the Tathagata, the fearlessnesses, the separate perfect knowledges, but engages in all the separate perfect knowledges. He does not fixate on great love, great compassion, the unmixed qualities of the Buddha, but engages in all the unmixed qualities of the Buddha. He does not fixate on sentient beings, but fully ripens sentient beings. He does not fixate on the Buddha-field, but makes the Buddha-field completely pure. He does not fixate on the qualities of the Buddha, but awakens to perfect complete enlightenment. Subhuti, thus the Bodhi-
