everything is powerless, proceeding by the characteristic of non-fabrication. Since he possesses such skillful means, he cultivates the perfection of morality, increasing with roots of virtue. He practices the perfection of morality and completely ripens beings, completely purifying the Buddha-field. Otherwise, other than practicing the perfection of morality for the sake of completely protecting all beings and completely ripening all beings, he does not aspire to such a result that any result of morality can be completely enjoyed in cyclic existence. Furthermore, Subhuti, when a bodhisattva mahasattva practices the perfection of patience, from the time of first generating the mind, he cultivates patience with the mental activity that is endowed with all-knowingness. Therefore, the mind of desire does not obscure him, hatred does not obscure him, delusion does not obscure him, latent tendencies do not obscure him, arising afflictions do not obscure him, other non-virtuous dharmas that become obstacles to enlightenment, such as miserliness, bad morality, an agitated mind, a lazy mind, a mind of little diligence, a distracted mind, a mind of perverse wisdom, pride, contempt, great pride, the pride of "I", the mind of a hearer, the mind of a solitary buddha, these also do not obscure him. Why is that? Subhuti, it is because he knows that all dharmas are empty of their own nature, and he sees that all dharmas are non-existent, unborn, incomplete, and unmanifest. Even if he enters into the characteristics of dharmas, all dharmas are powerless, proceeding by the characteristic of non-fabrication.

Without practicing the perfection of patience, one does not desire the fruit of patience that can be fully enjoyed in samsara. Furthermore, Subhuti, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the perfection of diligence, from the moment of generating the initial thought, he engages in diligence with the intention of possessing all aspects of knowledge. With steadfast armor and firm subjugation of others, he does not generate a mind of laziness or idleness, nor does he consider suffering for the sake of enlightenment as suffering. Why is that? Subhuti, it is because he knows that all phenomena are empty of their own nature, and he sees that all phenomena are non-existent, unborn, incomplete, and unmanifest. Even when entering the nature of phenomena, all phenomena enter into the nature of non-action, saying that they have no power whatsoever. Because he possesses such skillful means, he practices the perfection of diligence by increasing the roots of virtue. He practices the perfection of diligence and fully matures sentient beings, and he purifies the Buddha-field. Otherwise, without practicing the perfection of diligence for the sake of completely protecting all sentient beings and fully maturing sentient beings, one does not desire the fruit of diligence that can be fully enjoyed in samsara. Furthermore, Subhuti, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the perfection of meditation, from the moment of generating the initial thought, he enters into all the meditations with the intention of possessing all aspects of knowledge. When the eye sees a form, he does not cling to the sign, nor does he cling to the marks. Since he does not guard the sense of the eye in accordance with reality, he strives to guard the sense of the eye in order to restrain the greed, displeasure, and sinful, unwholesome dharmas that dwell in the mind. Similarly, when the ear hears a sound, the nose smells a scent, the tongue tastes a flavor,

The body touches tangible objects, and the mind, knowing phenomena, does not cling to signs, nor does it cling to manifest marks. As it is, if the mind faculty is not restrained, then greed and displeasure, and sinful unwholesomeness, those things that rely on the mind, one practices to restrain them and guards the mind faculty. Whether walking, standing, sitting, lying down, or being silent, one does not abandon the state of meditative equipoise, does not completely abandon it, so the hands do not become rough, the feet do not become rough, the mouth does not become harsh, speech does not become excessive, the eyes do not wander, the senses do not wander, not rough, the mind does not waver, the body is not confused, the mind is not confused, the body is peaceful, speech is peaceful, the mind is peaceful, without concealment, behavior is unartificial, and one is content with whatever food, drink, bedding, medicine for illness, and utensils are needed, easy to satisfy, easy to nourish, content, the sphere of activity is virtuous, and one's sphere of activity is also secluded from crowds, and one is equal and unchanging towards gain and loss, without high or low, and one is equal and unchanging towards pleasure and pain, praise and blame, fame and infamy, life and death, without high or low, and one is equal and unchanging towards enemies and friends, good and bad, dwelling in pleasant and unpleasant situations, pleasant and unpleasant sounds, mixed and unmixed things, without high or low, and one is separated from agreement and disagreement with beautiful and ugly forms. Why is that? Subhuti, it is because in this way, one knows that all phenomena are empty of their own nature, and one sees that all phenomena are non-existent, unborn, unfulfilled, and unmanifest. Even when entering into the nature of phenomena, one enters with the nature of non-action, thinking that all phenomena have no power whatsoever. Because he possesses such skillful means, he cultivates the perfection of meditative concentration, with roots of virtue increasing, he meditates.
