Those objects, those Buddhas, the Bhagavat, those roots of virtue, and the mind generation endowed with rejoicing, taking these as characteristics, will be completely dedicated to the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment. Venerable Subhuti, such an exposition of the Perfection of Wisdom should not be explained in front of a Bodhisattva who has newly entered the Great Vehicle. Likewise, the Perfection of Concentration, the Perfection of Diligence, the Perfection of Patience, the Perfection of Morality, the Perfection of Generosity, and between the emptiness of the internal and the emptiness of the nature of non-things, such an exposition should not be explained in front of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who has newly entered the Great Vehicle. Why is that? Because for him, merely faith, or merely joy, or merely delight, or merely reverence, whatever exists, that too will no longer exist. It should be explained in front of a non-retrogressing Bodhisattva Mahasattva. It should be explained. It is said that it should be explained up to the emptiness of the nature of non-things. Having heard that, he will not be timid, not completely afraid, and will not become one who possesses fear. Even if he is completely seized by a virtuous friend, and having relied on the Victorious Ones of the past, he has created roots of virtue, and even if he has attended to and honored many Buddhas. Venerable Subhuti, thus a Bodhisattva Mahasattva should completely dedicate the object of meritorious action endowed with rejoicing to the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment. Subhuti said: Maitreya, with what mind does one rejoice and then dedicate the mind that dedicates, that mind is exhausted, ceased, separated, and transformed, and those things, those objects, those roots of virtue are also exhausted, ceased, separated, and transformed, with what mind endowed with rejoicing, and what thing, and what object, and what root of virtue should be dedicated to the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment? With what mind? The mind is already

Should it be dedicated? If so, the two minds will not meet, and whatever the nature of the mind is, it cannot be completely dedicated. If a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices in the Perfection of Wisdom, like this, the Perfection of Wisdom is without substance. Similarly, the Perfection of Dhyana, the Perfection of Diligence, the Perfection of Patience, the Perfection of Morality, and the Perfection of Generosity are without substance. Form, feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are without substance. The thirty-seven factors of enlightenment are without substance. The immeasurables, the dhyanas, the formless absorptions, the noble truths, the eight liberations, and the nine successive abidings are without substance. Emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, and the six superknowledges are without substance. All emptinesses, all samadhis, and all dharani gates are without substance. The ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, and the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha are without substance. If one knows these, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should completely dedicate the object of merit with rejoicing to the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. If one dedicates in that way, it will be dedicated to the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Then, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva Maitreya said to the Venerable Subhuti: Venerable Subhuti, how does a son or daughter of a family who has newly entered the Great Vehicle dedicate those roots of virtue to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment? How does one take up and dedicate the object of merit with rejoicing? Subhuti said: Maitreya, if a Bodhisattva who has newly entered the Great Vehicle

That great hero practices the Perfection of Wisdom, and also holds that Perfection of Wisdom in a way that does not fixate and in a way that is without characteristics. Likewise, if the Perfection of Meditation, the Perfection of Diligence, the Perfection of Patience, the Perfection of Morality, and the Perfection of Generosity are held in a way that does not fixate and in a way that is without characteristics, then faith in inner emptiness will increase. Faith will increase in outer emptiness, inner and outer emptiness, and the emptiness of the nature of non-things. Faith will increase in the immeasurables, the meditations, the formless absorptions, and the noble truths. Faith will increase in the eight liberations and the nine successive abidings in meditative absorption. Faith will increase in emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness. Faith will increase in the superknowledges, all samadhis, and all dharani gates. Faith will increase in the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, and the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha. One will be completely taken care of by a spiritual friend. These spiritual friends will also show the Perfection of Wisdom, the Perfection of Meditation, the Perfection of Diligence, the Perfection of Patience, the Perfection of Morality, and the Perfection of Generosity in a way that is meaningful and full of letters, so that the Bodhisattva will never be separated from the Perfection of Wisdom until he attains freedom from faults, and likewise will not be separated from the perfections, and all emptinesses, the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, the noble truths, the immeasurables, the meditations, the formless absorptions, emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, the eight liberations, and the nine successive abidings in meditative absorption.
