This is the profound Perfection of Wisdom. O Blessed One, here, when Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas practice the Perfection of Wisdom, although they seek the minds and conduct of all sentient beings, they do not focus on sentient beings. They do not focus on life, they do not focus on survival, they do not focus on men, they do not focus on strong men, they do not focus on those born of strength, they do not focus on doers, they do not focus on experiencers, they do not focus on knowers, they do not focus on seers. They do not focus on form, they do not focus on feeling, they do not focus on perception, they do not focus on formations, they do not focus on consciousness. They do not focus on the earth element, they do not focus on the water element, they do not focus on the fire element, they do not focus on the wind element, they do not focus on the space element, they do not focus on the consciousness element. They do not focus on the eye, they do not focus on form, they do not focus on eye consciousness, they do not focus on the contact of the eye. Whatever feeling arises from the contact of the eye, form, and eye consciousness, whether it is pleasant, painful, or neither painful nor pleasant, they do not focus on that either. Similarly, they do not focus on the ear, nose, tongue, body, or mind. They do not focus on sound, smell, taste, touch, or phenomena. They do not focus on the interval between ear consciousness and mind consciousness, or between the contact of the ear and the contact of the mind. Whatever feeling arises from the contact of the mind, phenomena, and mind consciousness, whether it is pleasant, painful, or neither painful nor pleasant, they do not focus on that either. They do not focus on the mindfulnesses. They do not focus on the right abandonments, the miraculous feet, the faculties, the powers, the limbs of enlightenment, or the paths. They do not focus on the immeasurables, the meditations, or the formless absorptions. They do not focus on the noble truths or liberation.

There is no contemplation on the nine successive abidings of meditative stabilization and the six supernormal knowledges. There is no contemplation on the various meditative stabilizations. There is no contemplation on the doors of dharani. There is no contemplation on the ten powers of the Tathagata, the fearlessnesses, the various separate liberations, and the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha. There is no contemplation on inner emptiness. There is no contemplation on outer emptiness. There is no contemplation on inner and outer emptiness. There is no contemplation on the emptiness of the nature of non-things. There is no contemplation on the various meditative stabilizations. There is no contemplation on the doors of dharani. There is no contemplation on emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness. There is no contemplation on bodhi. There is no contemplation on Buddha. There is no contemplation on the qualities of a Buddha. The Perfection of Wisdom does not abide closely in the manner of contemplation. Why is that? Because, in this way, whatever is contemplated, with what one contemplates, and the object of contemplation, its own nature does not exist and is not contemplated. The Blessed One said: Kauśika, it is just so, it is just so. In the past, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practiced the Perfection of Wisdom in the manner of non-contemplation, even bodhi was not contemplated, what need to mention the Dharma-nature of a Bodhisattva? Indra asked: Blessed One, does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva only practice the Perfection of Wisdom and not the other perfections? The Blessed One said: Kauśika, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices all the perfections in the manner of non-contemplation, and not just the Perfection of Wisdom alone. He does not contemplate the Perfection of Giving, nor does he contemplate giving, nor does he contemplate receiving. He also does not contemplate the Perfection of Ethics, nor does he contemplate the one with ethics, nor does he contemplate guarding ethics. He also does not contemplate the Perfection of Patience, nor does he contemplate the one with patience, nor does he contemplate patience.

Action is also not apprehended. The perfection of diligence is also not apprehended. Action is also not apprehended. Body and mind are also not apprehended. The perfection of meditation is also not apprehended. Mind is also not apprehended, and samadhi is also not apprehended. The perfection of wisdom is also not apprehended. One endowed with wisdom is also not apprehended. That which is to be known is also not apprehended. Kauśika, nevertheless, by way of the non-apprehension of all dharmas, the perfection of wisdom is the forerunner and guide of the giving of the bodhisattva mahāsattva. The perfection of wisdom is the forerunner and guide of the bodhisattva mahāsattva's guarding of morality. The perfection of wisdom is the forerunner and guide of the bodhisattva mahāsattva's cultivation of patience, undertaking of diligence, entering into meditation, and viewing of dharmas. Likewise, the way of non-apprehension of the individual and aggregate skandhas, dhātus, āyatanas, āyatanas, dependent origination, and the way of non-apprehension of the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, and the noble truths, and the immeasurables, and the meditations, and the formless attainments, and the eight liberations, and the nine successive abidings, and emptiness, and signlessness, and wishlessness, and the six superknowledges, and the ten powers of the tathāgata, and the four fearlessnesses, and the four analytical knowledges, and the eighteen unshared dharmas of the Buddha, and all emptinesses, and all samādhis, and the way of non-apprehension of all dhāraṇī gates, and by way of the non-apprehension in between all dharmas. Kauśika, for example, the trees of Jambudvipa have various leaves and branches, various flowers and fruits, various shapes and sizes, but the shadows of those trees have no difference or distinction, they are merely counted as shadows.
