Not apprehended. Furthermore, Shariputra, because there is no Buddha, a bodhisattva does not apprehend the prior extreme. Because of the emptiness, detachment, and absence of intrinsic nature of the Buddha, a bodhisattva does not apprehend the prior extreme. Because there is no Buddha, a bodhisattva does not apprehend the posterior extreme. Because of the emptiness, detachment, and absence of intrinsic nature of the Buddha, a bodhisattva does not apprehend the posterior extreme. Because there is no Buddha, a bodhisattva does not apprehend the middle. Because of the emptiness, detachment, and absence of intrinsic nature of the Buddha, a bodhisattva does not apprehend the middle. Why is that? Shariputra, because there is no hearer, emptiness, detachment, and absence of intrinsic nature, up to and including the absence of all-knowingness, emptiness, detachment, and absence of intrinsic nature, the prior extreme, posterior extreme, and middle are not apprehended. Shariputra, absence is not other, emptiness is not other, detachment is not other, absence of intrinsic nature is not other, a hearer is not other, a solitary buddha is not other, a bodhisattva is not other, all-knowingness is not other, the prior extreme, posterior extreme, and middle are not other. Shariputra, thus, what is the absence of a hearer, emptiness, detachment, and absence of intrinsic nature, up to and including the absence of all-knowingness, emptiness, detachment, and absence of intrinsic nature, and what is a bodhisattva, and what are the prior extreme, posterior extreme, and middle, all of these are non-dual, and non-duality cannot be made. Shariputra, for that reason, a bodhisattva does not apprehend the prior extreme. Not apprehending the posterior extreme and the middle is the negation of what is to be attained. Shariputra, if someone were to say, "Why is that? Because form is all-pervasive and limitless, a bodhisattva should be known as all-pervasive and limitless." Because feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are all-pervasive and limitless, a bodhisattva is all-

The reason for saying that one should recognize the infinite is that, Venerable Shariputra, form is equal to space, and feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are equal to space. Why is that? Venerable Shariputra, for example, space does not observe its prior limit, nor does it observe the posterior limit and the middle, because it is infinite, it is called space. Venerable Shariputra, similarly, because form is emptiness, it does not observe the prior limit of form, nor does it observe the posterior limit and the middle. Feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness, because consciousness is emptiness, it does not observe the prior limit of consciousness, nor does it observe the posterior limit and the middle. Because emptiness has no edge or middle. Venerable Shariputra, therefore, form is universally infinite, feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are universally infinite, so bodhisattvas should recognize the universally infinite. Venerable Shariputra, the sense bases, the realms, dependent origination, the perfections, all emptiness, the factors of enlightenment, the noble truths, meditation, the immeasurables, the formless absorptions, the ten powers, fearlessness, the individual perfect knowledges, and the Buddha's unique qualities are equal to space. Why is that? Venerable Shariputra, for example, space does not observe its prior limit, nor does it observe the posterior limit and the middle, because it is infinite, it is called space. Venerable Shariputra, similarly, because the Buddha's unique qualities are emptiness, it does not observe the prior limit of the Buddha's unique qualities, nor does it observe the posterior limit and the middle. Because emptiness has no edge or middle. Venerable Shariputra, therefore, the Buddha's unique qualities are universally infinite, so bodhisattvas should recognize the universally infinite.

I, a Bodhisattva, like that, do not exist and are not perceived. Feelings, perceptions, mental formations, and consciousness, a Bodhisattva like that, do not exist and are not perceived. It is said: Venerable Shariputra, form is empty of form. Feelings, perceptions, mental formations, and consciousness are empty of consciousness. Why is that? Because in emptiness there is no form. In emptiness there is no Bodhisattva. In emptiness there are no feelings, perceptions, mental formations, and consciousness. In emptiness there is no Bodhisattva. Venerable Shariputra, in this way, form, a Bodhisattva, like that, does not exist and is not perceived. Feelings, perceptions, mental formations, and consciousness, a Bodhisattva, like that, do not exist and are not perceived. Venerable Shariputra, furthermore, the perfection of generosity is empty of the perfection of generosity. Why is that? Because in emptiness there is no perfection of generosity, no Bodhisattva. The perfection of morality, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, and the perfection of wisdom are empty of the perfection of wisdom. Why is that? Because in emptiness there is no perfection of wisdom, no Bodhisattva. Venerable Shariputra, furthermore, inner emptiness is empty of inner emptiness. Why is that? Because in emptiness there is no inner emptiness, no Bodhisattva. Outer emptiness, inner-outer emptiness, emptiness of the nature of non-things up to emptiness of the nature of non-things are empty of emptiness of the nature of non-things. Why is that? Because in emptiness there is no emptiness of the nature of non-things, no Bodhisattva. Venerable Shariputra, furthermore, the four mindfulnesses are empty of the four mindfulnesses. The right abandonments, the bases of miraculous power, the faculties, the powers, the Bodhi
