Then, what is the samadhi called 'unattached like the sky, thus liberated and unsoiled'? It is abiding in any samadhi, and because all dharmas are unattached like the sky, one attains liberation and unsoiledness. This is the samadhi called 'unattached like the sky, thus liberated and unsoiled.' Subhuti, this is the accumulation of merit called the Great Vehicle in which Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas practice Prajnaparamita. Collection of Paths. Furthermore, Subhuti, the Great Vehicle of Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas is as follows: the four mindfulnesses. What are the four? They are mindfulness of the body, mindfulness of feelings, mindfulness of the mind, and mindfulness of dharmas. What is mindfulness of the body? Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva is diligent, mindful, and possesses clear knowing. With mindfulness, they abandon attachment and distress towards the world. They contemplate the body in the inner body and abide in a non-attending manner, not attending to the conceptual elaborations associated with the body. They contemplate the body in the outer body and abide in a non-attending manner, not attending to the conceptual elaborations associated with the body. They contemplate the body in both the inner and outer body and abide in a non-attending manner, not attending to the conceptual elaborations associated with the body. When walking, one knows, 'I am walking.' When standing, one knows, 'I am standing.' When sitting, one knows, 'I am sitting.' When lying down, one knows, 'I am lying down.' One thoroughly understands the body as it exists, whether comfortable or uncomfortable. Subhuti, in this way, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, being diligent, possessing mindfulness and awareness, having completely eliminated attachment and discontent towards the world, dwells contemplating the body in the body, abiding in a non-objective manner. He does not conceptualize the conceptualizations associated with the body. Furthermore, Subhuti, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva dwells contemplating the body in the body, he acts with awareness when going or returning. He acts with awareness when looking around or looking in different directions. He acts with awareness when contracting, stretching, wearing the monastic skirt, carrying the alms bowl, wearing the Dharma robes, eating, drinking, chewing, sleeping, dispelling drowsiness, coming, going, standing, sitting, lying down, falling asleep, waking up, speaking, not speaking, and when settling inwardly. Subhuti, in this way, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, being diligent, possessing mindfulness and awareness, having completely eliminated attachment and discontent towards the world, dwells contemplating the body in the body, and in a non-objective manner, he does not conceptualize the conceptualizations associated with the body. Furthermore, Subhuti, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva breathes out mindfully, he truly knows, 'I breathe out mindfully.' When he breathes in mindfully, he truly knows, 'I breathe in mindfully.' When breathing out long, he truly knows, 'I breathe out long.' When breathing in long, he truly knows, 'I breathe in long.' When breathing out short, he truly knows, 'I breathe out short.'

And again, when inhaling a short breath, one also knows exactly as it is that one is inhaling a short breath. Subhuti, for example, just as a potter or a skilled apprentice of a potter, when turning a wheel, knows exactly as it is that a long turn is a long turn, and when turning a short turn, knows exactly as it is that a short turn is a short turn; Subhuti, in the same way, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, when mindfully exhaling, knows exactly as it is that one is mindfully exhaling; when mindfully inhaling, one knows exactly as it is that one is mindfully inhaling; when exhaling a long breath, one knows exactly as it is that one is exhaling a long breath; when exhaling a short breath, one knows exactly as it is that one is exhaling a short breath; when a short breath enters inward, one knows exactly as it is that a short breath enters inward; when inhaling a short breath, one knows exactly as it is that one is inhaling a short breath. Subhuti, in this way, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, endowed with diligence, possessing knowledge, endowed with mindfulness, having completely dispelled attachment and displeasure towards the world, dwells contemplating the body in one's own body, yet without fixating on it, one does not conceptually elaborate on the conceptual elaborations associated with the body. Furthermore, Subhuti, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva engages in the Perfection of Wisdom, one understands that within this very body there exists the earth element, the water element, the fire element, and the wind element, and one discerns each of these elements individually, exactly as they are. Subhuti, for example, just as a butcher of cattle or a skilled apprentice of a butcher, having slaughtered a cow with a sharp knife, divides it into four parts, and having divided it into four parts, either stands or sits and thoroughly examines it; in the same way, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva engages in the Perfection of Wisdom, one also understands that within this very body there exists the earth element, the water element, the fire element, and the wind element.
