What are they? The ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha, the state of an Arhat, the state of a Pratyekabuddha, a Bodhisattva, abiding in the dharmas of the Buddhas, superior faith and understanding, and complete knowledge. He abides in the dharmas of the Buddhas, superior faith and understanding, and complete knowledge, and thus engages in the manifestation of the dharmas of the Buddhas. Engaging in manifestation, he is said to be not liberated from birth, aging, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, and mental distress, and thus not liberated from great suffering. Shariputra, that Bodhisattva Mahasattva, if he does not even have the potential to realize the state of a Hearer or the state of a Pratyekabuddha, what need is there to mention that he will realize unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment? That is impossible. Shariputra, if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva engages in the Perfection of Wisdom in this way, it should be known as unskilled in means. It was said: "Venerable Subhuti, how should a Bodhisattva Mahasattva engage in the Perfection of Wisdom so that it is known as skilled in means?" Subhuti said: "Venerable Shariputra, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva engages in the Perfection of Wisdom, he does not abide in form, has no superior faith and understanding, and has no complete knowledge. He also does not abide in feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness, has no superior faith and understanding, and has no complete knowledge. Likewise, he does not abide even in the dharmas of the Buddhas, has no superior faith and understanding, and has no complete knowledge. Therefore, he does not engage in form, feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness. He does not engage in the characteristics of form, feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness. He does not engage in the notion that form is permanent or impermanent, or that feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are permanent or impermanent.
