One should know the passing away and birth of sentient beings. One should listen to their sounds with divine ears. One should know their minds with one's own mind. One should not think, 'Remembering their former lives, I will go with magical powers and teach them the Dharma.' Shariputra, likewise, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should think thus: 'With my divine eye, I shall know the passing away and birth of all sentient beings in the realms of the upper direction, as many as the sands of the Ganges River. I shall listen to their sounds with divine ears. I shall know their minds with my own mind. I shall not think, 'Remembering their former lives, I will go with magical powers and teach them the Dharma.' Shariputra, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva thus practices the Perfection of Wisdom, it should be said that he is diligent in completely liberating immeasurable, countless, and limitless sentient beings from suffering. Shariputra, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva thus practices the Perfection of Wisdom, the Evil One will not find an opportunity. All the worldly afflictions of this one will be completely eliminated. Shariputra, in the realms of the eastern direction, as many as the sands of the Ganges River, all the Buddhas, the Bhagavat who dwell and sustain, and those who are their Shravakas, and all the Pratyekabuddhas, the Four Great Kings, the Thirty-three, the No-Strife, the Joyful, the Enjoying Emanation, the Controlling Others' Emanation, the Brahma Host, the Brahma Retinue, the Great Brahma, the Minor Light, the Immeasurable Light, the Clear Light, the Minor Virtue, the Immeasurable Virtue, the Universal Virtue, the Cloudless, the Merit-Born, the Great Fruit, the Non-Perception Sentient Beings, the Non-Abandoning, the Non-Tormenting, the Well-Seeing, the Utterly Seeing, and whatever gods there are in the Akanistha, some of them might cause obstacles for that Bodhisattva-Mahasattva.

Who protects him? All the defects in his body will become endowed with visible Dharma. What is the reason for this? It is because this Bodhisattva Mahasattva pervades all sentient beings with loving-kindness.
