Shariputra, a bodhisattva mahasattva who acts in that way is said to be diligent in the perfection of wisdom. Shariputra, furthermore, when a bodhisattva mahasattva acts in the perfection of wisdom, he should not act in the perfection of wisdom for the sake of the perfection of generosity. He should not act in the perfection of wisdom for the sake of the perfection of discipline. He should not act in the perfection of wisdom for the sake of the perfection of patience. He should not act in the perfection of wisdom for the sake of the perfection of diligence. He should not act in the perfection of wisdom for the sake of the perfection of meditation. He should not act in the perfection of wisdom for the sake of the perfection of wisdom. He should not act in the perfection of wisdom for the sake of the ground of non-retrogression. He should not act in the perfection of wisdom for the sake of fully ripening sentient beings. He should not act in the perfection of wisdom for the sake of fully purifying the Buddha-field. He should not act in the perfection of wisdom for the sake of the ten powers of the Tathagata. He should not act in the perfection of wisdom for the sake of the four fearlessnesses. He should not act in the perfection of wisdom for the sake of the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha. He should not act in the perfection of wisdom for the sake of inner emptiness. He should not act in the perfection of wisdom for the sake of outer emptiness. He should not act in the perfection of wisdom for the sake of inner and outer emptiness. One should not practice the Perfection of Wisdom for the sake of accomplishing magical powers. One should not practice the Perfection of Wisdom for the sake of the wisdom of the exhaustion of defilements. Why is that? In this way, when one practices the Perfection of Wisdom, if one does not even truly see the Perfection of Wisdom itself, how can a Bodhisattva accomplish all superknowledges? Shariputra, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who practices the Perfection of Wisdom in this way is said to be diligent. Shariputra, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he does not think, 'I will know the death and birth of the beings of the eastern world, as many as the sands of the Ganges River, with my divine eye.'
