Thus he spoke. "Lord, in this way, a Bodhisattva is not found at the prior limit. A Bodhisattva is not found at the posterior limit. A Bodhisattva is not found in the middle. Because form is all-pervasive and limitless, a Bodhisattva should be known as all-pervasive and limitless. Because feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are all-pervasive and limitless, a Bodhisattva should be known as all-pervasive and limitless. Such a thing as form being called a Bodhisattva is neither existent nor found. Such a thing as feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness being called a Bodhisattva is neither existent nor found. Lord, since I do not see or find Bodhisattvas in all places, in all things, in all ways, and in all truths, which Bodhisattva should I instruct and teach the Perfection of Wisdom to? Lord, the term 'Bodhisattva' is merely a name. Lord, just as the term 'I' refers to something that is not truly established, similarly, Lord, the term 'Bodhisattva, Bodhisattva' refers to something that is not truly established as a Bodhisattva. Thus, in phenomena that lack inherent existence, how can there be form that is truly established to be seen? How can there be feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness that are truly established to be seen? Lord, that which is not truly established is not form. That which is not truly established is not feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness. Lord, since it is so, how can one instruct and teach the Perfection of Wisdom to something that is not truly established? Or, apart from what is not truly established, if there is no Bodhisattva, a great being, who is seen to engage in enlightenment, then if one teaches in this way, and the mind of the Bodhisattva, the great being, does not sink, does not utterly sink, does not regret, is not afraid, and does not become frightened, then that Bodhisattva, that great being...

practices the Perfection of Wisdom. Then the venerable Śāriputra said to the venerable Subhūti: For what reason, venerable Subhūti, does a bodhisattva-mahāsattva not focus on the past limit, not focus on the future limit, and not focus on the middle? For what reason, venerable Subhūti? Because form is utterly limitless, a bodhisattva should be known as utterly limitless. Because feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are utterly limitless, a bodhisattva should be known as utterly limitless. For what reason, venerable Subhūti, is it that even the term 'form bodhisattva' is neither existent nor perceived? Feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness, even the term 'bodhisattva' is neither existent nor perceived. For what reason, venerable Subhūti? If, in this way, a bodhisattva-mahāsattva is not truly seen or perceived in all ways, in all aspects, in all forms, and in everything, then how should a bodhisattva-mahāsattva be instructed and shown the Perfection of Wisdom? He said: For what reason, venerable Subhūti? In this way, Blessed One, the term 'bodhisattva-mahāsattva' is merely a name. For what reason, venerable Subhūti? In this way, even when one says 'I, I,' the self is not truly established. Blessed One, similarly, even when one says 'bodhisattva, bodhisattva,' a bodhisattva is not truly established. Thus, since all phenomena have the nature of non-things, how can the reality of form be seen? How can the reality of feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness be seen? If there is no reality, then it is not form. If there is no reality, then it is not feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness. He said: For what reason, venerable Subhūti? In this way, how should one instruct the Perfection of Wisdom, which is the non-reality of non-reality?

I said, shall I declare it later? The venerable Subhuti, for what reason? Thus it is said, apart from the non-manifestly established, even the one called Bodhisattva Mahasattva is not found. The venerable Subhuti, for what reason? Thus it is said, if it is declared in this way, the mind of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva will not be timid, not at all timid, will not regret, the mind will not be afraid, not panic, not be afraid, then this Bodhisattva Mahasattva is practicing the Perfection of Wisdom. Having said this, the venerable Subhuti said to the venerable Shariputra: Venerable Shariputra, because there are no sentient beings, the Bodhisattva is not seen in the past extreme. Because of the emptiness of sentient beings, the tranquility of sentient beings, and the absence of self-nature of sentient beings, the Bodhisattva is not seen in the past extreme. Venerable Shariputra, because there are no sentient beings, the Bodhisattva is not seen in the future extreme. Because of the emptiness of sentient beings, the tranquility of sentient beings, and the absence of self-nature of sentient beings, the Bodhisattva is not seen in the future extreme. Venerable Shariputra, because there are no sentient beings, the Bodhisattva is not seen in the middle. Because of the emptiness of sentient beings, the tranquility of sentient beings, and the absence of self-nature of sentient beings, the Bodhisattva is not seen in the middle. Venerable Shariputra, for what reason? Because there are no sentient beings, the emptiness of sentient beings, the tranquility of sentient beings, and the absence of self-nature of sentient beings, one is not seen in the past extreme, one is not seen in the future extreme, one is not seen in the middle. The absence of sentient beings is also other, the emptiness of sentient beings is also other, the tranquility of sentient beings is also other, the absence of self-nature of sentient beings is also other, the Bodhisattva is also other, the past extreme is also other, the future extreme is also other, the middle is also other, this is unreasonable. Venerable Shariputra, thus, what is the absence of sentient beings, what is the emptiness of sentient beings, what is the tranquility of sentient beings, what is the absence of self-nature of sentient beings, what is the Bodhisattva, what is the past extreme, what is the future extreme
