For the sake of what, does one not engage in the Perfection of Wisdom? For the sake of the great emptiness, one does not engage in the Perfection of Wisdom. For the sake of the ultimate emptiness, one does not engage in the Perfection of Wisdom. For the sake of conditioned emptiness, one does not engage in the Perfection of Wisdom. For the sake of unconditioned emptiness, one does not engage in the Perfection of Wisdom. For the sake of emptiness that transcends extremes, one does not engage in the Perfection of Wisdom. For the sake of emptiness that is without beginning or end, one does not engage in the Perfection of Wisdom. For the sake of emptiness that is without abandonment, one does not engage in the Perfection of Wisdom. For the sake of emptiness of inherent nature, one does not engage in the Perfection of Wisdom. For the sake of emptiness of all phenomena, one does not engage in the Perfection of Wisdom. For the sake of emptiness of self-character, one does not engage in the Perfection of Wisdom. For the sake of emptiness of non-apprehension, one does not engage in the Perfection of Wisdom. For the sake of emptiness of non-entity, one does not engage in the Perfection of Wisdom. For the sake of emptiness of essence, one does not engage in the Perfection of Wisdom. For the sake of emptiness of the essence of non-entity, one does not engage in the Perfection of Wisdom. For the sake of Suchness, one does not engage in the Perfection of Wisdom. For the sake of the realm of Dharma, one does not engage in the Perfection of Wisdom. For the sake of the ultimate reality, one does not engage in the Perfection of Wisdom. Why is that? Because when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva engages in the Perfection of Wisdom, he does not see any phenomena as truly different. Shariputra, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva thus engages in the Perfection of Wisdom, for the sake of the divine eye, he does not engage in the Perfection of Wisdom. For the sake of the divine ear, he does not engage in the Perfection of Wisdom. For the sake of knowing the minds of others, he does not engage in the Perfection of Wisdom. For the sake of remembering previous

Therefore, one should not practice the Perfection of Wisdom for the sake of magical powers. One should not practice the Perfection of Wisdom for the sake of the wisdom of the exhaustion of defilements. Why is that? Because when one practices the Perfection of Wisdom in this way, if one does not even truly see the Perfection of Wisdom itself, how can a Bodhisattva have all kinds of clairvoyance? Shariputra, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who practices the Perfection of Wisdom in this way is said to be diligent. Shariputra, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he does not think, 'I will know the death and birth of sentient beings in the eastern world-realms as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River with my divine eye.' He will hear their sounds with his divine ear. He will know their minds with his mind. He will remember their past lives and go forth by means of magical power and teach the Dharma to them.' Shariputra, likewise, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva does not think, 'I will know the death and birth of sentient beings in the southern world-realms as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River with my divine eye.' He will hear their sounds with his divine ear. He will know their minds with his mind. He will remember their past lives and go forth by means of magical power and teach the Dharma to them.'
