One should generate a mind of loving-kindness, as it is taught that one should not generate a mind of hatred. It is also taught in the sutras that one should generate a mind of non-harm towards all sentient beings. Thus, these five, as well as the mind of a parent, the mind of a sibling, the mind of a sister, the mind of a son, the mind of a daughter, the mind of a virtuous friend, the mind of a friend, the mind of a relative, and the mind of a relative through marriage, these five are taught in the sutras, saying that one should generate the mind of a mother towards all sentient beings, and so on. As appropriate. The ultimate aims are four: oneself and others engaging in virtue, refraining from non-virtue, and praising engagement and refraining. It is also taught in the sutras that I myself should abandon killing, and so on. It is also taught in the sutras that by training in this way and abiding in this way, one will become without obscuration of form. It is also taught in the sutras that the supreme of worldly dharmas is that the Bodhisattva Mahasattva has never grasped form from the beginning. Why is that? The assembly of those who do not turn back from learning. The eighth of the eleven points that explain complete perfect enlightenment is the assembly of those who do not turn back from learning, which also has three aspects: not turning back from the path of accumulation, the path of seeing, and the path of cultivation. There are twenty signs of not turning back from the path of accumulation. It is said in the sutra, at the beginning of the forty-ninth chapter, that the Blessed One spoke thus, and the venerable Subhuti said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, what are the characteristics of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who does not turn back?" And so on, beginning with the first sign of turning away from form, etc. The Blessed One said: "Subhuti, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who does not turn back from form," and so on. The second is that having understood, one gains faith and doubt is exhausted. It is said in the sutra: "Subhuti, furthermore, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, these ascetics and Brahmins are to be known, are known." And so on. The third is that wishes are fulfilled, and one is separated from wrong views, and
