The worker who seeks in the morning, is this alms bowl beautiful? Or the Dharma garment? Or the patchwork robe? Or the bedding? Is this crooked key good? This tool is good. If I were to find something like this to hold, it would be difficult to find a donor as well. Going to any house, one should say this: Your rice is good, the food is good, the clothes are good, what you eat or use is good. In the past, you have given to us, and if we were also given by you, that would be truly wonderful, but now do you not consider giving to us or doing things for us? Thus, expressing in unclear language, the act of flattery arising from greed, speaking of those things, this is called flattery. To measure by gain means that here, some seek to gain, and with their minds bound by desire for gain and so on, they say this to others: You should not give to your mother, nor to your father, nor to your sister, nor to relatives and any in-laws, to whom will you give? Going to someone's house, and again saying to that person, if you go to that person's house, an Arhat resides in that person's house, do not be like you. To live with an Arhat, to sit together, and to speak related words, you have gained a great gain, you have obtained good wealth, your finding of a human being is meaningful. He thinks this, and also makes others think this, in my house, except for the noble ones, no Bhikshu or Brahmin is allowed to enter, and he thinks that this noble one, if he were an Arhat, that would be good. Wherever one seeks to gain, and with their minds bound by desire for gain, proclaiming to others in such a manner, this is called measuring by gain. Contentment is what abandons the desire for gain by gain. Therefore, seeking gain by gain

The so-called "seeking gain through others' possessions" refers to someone—a king, a great minister of a king, a Brahmin, a householder, or anyone else—who has a begging bowl, Dharma robes, a monastic shawl, a crooked key, a cushion, or any other item. They take it, praise and select others, and say, "This great king so-and-so, or another holy being, is generously giving to me." If someone thinks, "Since that is the case, why not also give these things to this noble being and do something? I too should give to the noble being and do something," placing this thought in their mind is called "seeking gain through others' possessions." The so-called "flawless entry of a Bodhisattva" is taught with reference to the path of seeing, indicated by the word "path." The so-called "abiding in the stage of non-retrogression" refers to what was said: "A Bodhisattva Mahasattva who wishes to abide in the stage of non-retrogression should strive in the Prajnaparamita." If that is the case, then following the Sutra Requested by Ratnachandra and the Sutra of the Jewel Garland, it says: The Bhagavan "Auspicious Virtue Auspicious Virtue," and "Chandana Virtue Chandana Virtue," and also "Boundless Light Array Virtue," who is known as the complete Buddha, and "Crest Virtue Crest Virtue," and "Free from Sorrow Virtue," and "All Aspects Free from Sorrow Virtue," and "Jewel Offering Virtue Jewel Offering Virtue," and "Sugata Flower Virtue," and "Victor Three Exertions' Play Victor Three Exertions' Play," and "Light Virtue Light Virtue," the Bhagavan "Qualities Virtue Qualities Virtue Ocean." Bhagavan, Bhagavan, the Bhagavatans who abide in the ten directions, if one holds their names, one will become non-retrogressing. Similarly, it is said that as many sentient beings as hear the name of the Bhagavan Shakyamuni will all become non-retrogressing. How is it that striving in this Prajnaparamita appears to be different from being the cause of abiding in the stage of non-retrogression? This teaching is intentional, as it is said:

Du. Just as hearing the names of the Tathagatas, seeing that sons of good family generate the seeds of non-retrogression, they prophesy the non-retrogression of sentient beings. However, they do not become non-retrogressing merely upon hearing the names. Son of good family, for example, some trees whose seeds have become special seeds, and that transformed seed is also free from all the defects of seeds, and the causes of this are assembled, therefore it sprouts. Son of good family, how should that be called a seed? Blessed One, it should be called completely perfect because it has abandoned all the faults of the seed. Son of good family, similarly, just by hearing the name, one possesses the seed of non-retrogression, therefore, all sentient beings will become non-retrogressing from the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Therefore, merely striving in the Perfection of Wisdom is suitable as a cause for non-retrogression. What is the ground of non-retrogression? The eighth bodhisattva ground, like this, the non-retrogressing wisdom, because of non-retrogression, is called the ground of non-retrogression, which means that the wisdom does not regress. "Born into the Buddha's lineage" means this: whoever desires to be born into the Buddha's lineage, etc. Here, some say that relying on truth, generosity, wisdom, and near-pacification is the Buddha's lineage. Others say that it should be the six perfections because the Buddhas are generated as Buddhas themselves. Others say that since the Buddhas are born in this way, the Perfection of Wisdom is the mother of the Buddhas, and skillful means is the father, since the Buddhas arise from these two, it is the lineage of the Buddhas. Others say that the teachings established by the Buddhas are the trainings, therefore, by properly taking the trainings, one will be born into the Buddha's lineage. Others say that since calm abiding and insight are the chief of all virtuous dharmas, it is the Buddha.
