It belongs to those who are in equipoise and possess wisdom, not to those whose wisdom is shallow. The venerable Maudgalyayana's son abides by these seven thoughts of a great man. The Blessed One also said to Maudgalyayana's son, "You should contemplate these eight thoughts of a great man. This is in accordance with the Dharma without elaboration, and the joy garden that does not depend on the joy garden without elaboration." Therefore, by having few desires, one abandons four things: namely, hypocrisy, flattery, deception, and measuring by gain. Among them, what is called hypocrisy is as it is said in the sutra: Here, someone desires gain, and with his mind bound by attachment to gain, respect, and reverence, he becomes an aranyaka, or lives in a pile of dung, or practices from one seat any quality, and he thinks to himself: How wonderful it would be if others would attend to me, respect me, make offerings to me, and remember me! I should also accomplish gain, respect, and reverence. Thinking like this in his mind, he praises gain and so on for the sake of gain and respect. Such a way of conduct is called hypocrisy. What is called flattery is when someone, with attachment to gain and respect, says to others: You are like my mother, like my father, like my brother, like any relative, like an ink relative. Because you are like that, my giving and so on is also for your sake. I come to you from afar for your sake, and staying here is also for your sake. If they do not respect him much, he seeks gain, and with his mind bound by attachment to the desire for gain and so on, he speaks flattering words to others in that way, and completely speaks false words related to the fruit of the desired thing. This is called flattery. What is called deception is

Here, in order to obtain, one engages in the activity of obtaining through flattery, without being clear about that particular object. For example, "Is this alms bowl beautiful?" or "Is this Dharma garment?" or "Is this patched robe?" or "Is this bedding?" or "Is this crooked key good?" or "This utensil is good." If I were to obtain something like this, it should be kept, but even the donor is difficult to find. Having gone to any house, one says there, "Your rice gruel is good," or "This food is good," or "This garment is good," or "Your food or meal is good." "In the past, you have given to us, and if we were given by you, we would be very happy, but now you do not consider giving to us or doing something?" Like that, by speaking any unclear words, the object of the activity of flattering begging that arises from greed, stating that is called flattering begging. Measuring by gain means that here, some people strive for gain, and with their minds bound by dependence on the desire for gain and so on, they say this to others: "You should not give to your mother, nor to your father, nor to your sister, nor to relatives, nor to any in-laws. If you do not give to others, then to whom will you give?" Having gone to someone's house, one says to that person, "If you go to your house, an Arhat resides in that house, and do not be like you. To live together with an Arhat, to sit together, and to have spoken related words, then you have obtained a great gain, you have obtained good wealth, your obtaining a human body is meaningful." He thinks this, and he should also make him think this: "In my house, no Bhikshu or Brahmin other than the noble ones is allowed to enter, and this noble one, if he were an Arhat, that would be good," he thinks. Wherever one strives for gain, and with the mind bound by dependence on gain, proclaiming that in such a way to others is called measuring by gain. Contentment is because one does not desire gain by gain.

That should be abandoned. Among them, the so-called "seeking gain with gain" means that here, some people, whether they are kings, great ministers of kings, Brahmins, householders, or anyone else, if there is an alms bowl, Dharma robes, cushions, crooked keys, bedding, or any utensils that have been given away, they take them all, and then praise and choose others, saying, "This is my great King so-and-so, or another holy person, who bestows upon me excellent things." Then they think, "In any case, for the time being, such things should also be given to this noble being, and actions should be done. Why shouldn't I also give to the noble being and do actions?" Thinking like this in their minds, this is what is called "seeking other gains with the gains of others." The so-called "Bodhisattva enters without fault" means that the word "path" is explained from the perspective of the path of seeing. The so-called "abiding in the irreversible ground" means that Bodhisattvas, great beings who wish to abide in the irreversible ground, should strive in the Prajnaparamita, which is what is said. If that is the case, then one should follow the Sutra Requested by Ratnachandra and the Garland of Jewels Sutra, (which says) "Bhagavan Auspicious Virtue Auspicious Virtue" and "Chandana Auspicious Chandana Auspicious," as well as "Infinite Light Adornment Auspicious," which is known as the Perfectly Complete Enlightenment, "Top Auspicious Top Auspicious" and "Free from Sorrow Auspicious" and "All Aspects Free from Sorrow Auspicious," "Jewel Offering Auspicious Jewel Offering Auspicious" and "Sugata Flower Auspicious," as well as "Victor Three Efforts' Play Victor Three Efforts' Play," "Light Auspicious Light Auspicious," the Bhagavan "Merit Auspicious Merit Auspicious Sea" is, "Bhagavan Bhagavan, the Bhagavatans who abide in the ten directions, if one holds their names, one will become irreversible." It is said like this. Similarly, as many sentient beings as hear the name of Bhagavan Shakyamuni, all of them will become irreversible, and so on. Striving in this Prajnaparamita seems to be different from the cause of abiding in the irreversible ground.
