At that time, it is clear that many people attain realization through the teachings. Without being embraced by the Perfection of Wisdom and lacking skillful means, one will fall into the realm of the Shravakas and others. Knowing this, others combine the Perfection of Wisdom with skillful means and generate joy. For example, even if one is perfected by generosity and other virtues, like a great-bodied bird, if separated from the two wings, one will fall into the realm of the Shravakas and others. Thus, the teaching shows that these two are the main factors for definite emergence. Among them, that which possesses wings is called a bird. The distinction is the bird itself. The word 'bird' is mentioned to make this known. Thus, it is said to be 'broken' because it has a large body but lacks wings. This is an explanation of the nature of its characteristics. In any case, not all efforts to practice here will necessarily bear fruit. Without being here, there will be no fruit. Although that is so, for whom is it so? It is for those who possess roots of virtue that are in accordance with the aspects of liberation. What is in accordance with the aspects of liberation? Giving without signs, etc., those who are skilled in true practice, in this realization of all aspects, are considered to be in accordance with the aspects of liberation. Thus it is taught. Whoever fully realizes all aspects, taking as a basis the roots of virtue that are in accordance with the aspects of liberation, from the initial generation of the mind of enlightenment up to the attainment of omniscience itself, skillfully makes generosity and other practices without signs, this is the permitted conduct. This should be understood as the characteristics of faith, diligence, mindfulness, samadhi, and wisdom. Furthermore, why are the perceptions of signs, such as generosity, prohibited here? It is for the sake of extreme purity, because the dharmas do not have the nature of dharma in the slightest and are invisible. With the perception of signs, it is difficult to attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. With the perception of no signs, having familiarized oneself with all dharmas as emptiness, one will easily manifest perfect enlightenment.

It is for the sake of stability. To revert from the perception of no characteristics is called delusion, because seeing bodhisattvas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges revert, it is said that unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment is difficult. The perception of characteristics is of four kinds: the perception of form and so on, and the perception of a person different from that, the perception of suchness, and the perception of dharma. Whoever does not have these is called without perception, and therefore it is easier to manifest enlightenment. Because one does not observe form and so on, and different from that, suchness, and other dharmas that revert from that. Thus, it is reasonable that it is easier to manifest perfect enlightenment because the bodhisattva who reverts from suchness, and the realm of dharma, and the place of dharma, and the certainty of dharma, and the true limit, and the inconceivable realm, does not observe. Although this is the case, because there are no three kinds of bodhisattvas such as the Hearer Vehicle, it would be a fault that bodhisattvas should not be considered as one either. Such a fault would occur, and why is that? Starting from "Do you also consider the bodhisattva to be one?", if he abides in truth and does not observe the dharmas, how could it be so? It has been shown that it is reasonable not to admit that a bodhisattva is one or many. Truth is the ultimate truth itself. Abiding means the meaning of being labeled as a designation. After showing the nature of being in accordance with the aspect of liberation, now the sign is to be stated, by what sign is it known? There are three signs for that: because of fear of the non-place. Complete despondency is because of constant fear. Turning one's back is the ultimate in complete fear. Because of obtaining those who are not vessels for them. Whoever is the reversion from that is the suchness of all dharmas, having thoroughly examined the omniscient nature, it has been shown that there is no difference between a bodhisattva, a great being, and a bodhisattva. Three kinds of bodhisattvas
