Meditations and, birth and, death and, the remembrance of food and drink that have become the body, and the ten recollections, and the meditations and, the formless attainments, and the ten powers of the Tathagata, and the four fearlessnesses, and the four individual perfect knowledges, and the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha, and the doors of the dharanis, and the aspect of non-apprehension of all, and the collection of treatises composed, those teachings should be known as the collection of the path. All those dharmas are encompassed by the paths of seeing and meditation. The collection of grounds should be known to become ten aspects by the distinction of the bodhisattva grounds being completely purified. Furthermore, Subhuti, as you said, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva enter the Great Vehicle, starting from "practicing the perfections, ascending from ground to ground"? Why is that? Because the coming and going of all dharmas is blocked. Then, in what place and with how many dharmas does one completely purify? With ten aspects, one completely purifies the first ground. The ten aspects of complete purification, one obtains the first ground, namely: thinking and the nature of benefit, and equanimity towards sentient beings, giving and relying on spiritual friends, seeking the true dharma and the object of focus, constantly generating the mind of renunciation, and the joy of wanting to honor the Buddha, and teaching the dharma and truthful words, are considered to be ten. Because these natures are non-apprehending, it should be known that they are completely purified. Thus it is said. As it is said in the sutra, the complete purification of superior intention is the yoga of non-apprehension, and the complete purification of beneficial things is taking the sign of non-apprehension, and so on. With eight aspects, one completely purifies the second ground, namely: discipline, making increase and patience, great joy and great compassion, respect, respectful listening, and the eighth is diligence in giving and so on. Thus it is said. Among them, making increase means making more than what was done small, because it is not wasted.

The third ground is purified by five aspects, namely: never being satisfied with hearing, giving the Dharma without material possessions, purifying all Buddha-fields, never being weary of samsara, and having a sense of shame and propriety. These five are the nature of being without arrogance. Thus it is said. The fourth ground is purified by ten aspects, namely: dwelling in the forest, having few desires and being content, diligently practicing discipline, not abandoning the training, denouncing desires, abandoning nirvana and all possessions, being fearless and without views. As it is said in the sutra: dwelling in solitude and delighting in having few desires, and so on. Among these, having few desires means not desiring to obtain what has not been obtained. Being content means not desiring more than what has been obtained. The fifth ground is purified by ten aspects, namely: abandoning attachment to friends and family, avoiding places of bustle, abandoning self-praise and disparaging others, abandoning the ten non-virtuous paths of action, abandoning pride and conceit and perverted views, abandoning doubt and tolerating afflictions. By abandoning these ten, one attains the fifth ground. Thus it is said. Pride is conceit, which is the aspect of being haughty and so on. The sixth ground is purified by six aspects, namely: generosity, discipline, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom, perfecting them. As it is said in the sutra: one should perfect the six paramitas. Abandoning the mind of joy and fear towards disciples and rhinos, not being discouraged when begging, not regretting even when giving away all possessions, and not abandoning learning even in poverty, one attains the sixth ground. Thus it is said. As it is said in the sutra: one should completely abandon the mind that desires to be a Hearer, one should completely abandon the mind that desires to be a Solitary Realizer, one should completely abandon the mind that fears samsara, and so on. The seventh ground is purified by twenty distinctions, namely: clinging to self and sentient beings, clinging to life and the individual, nihilistic and eternal views, characteristics and causes, aggregates and elements, sense-fields and attachment to the three realms, and the mind always being dejected.
