Cut trees with pith into pieces and stack them like wood piles or guest rooms, without overlapping, like laying bricks. Make holes the size of a span and four fingers wide all over, and spread any leather or coarse cloth mat in front of it, sit comfortably, thinking that there are trees and grass underneath, birds flying above, and a thick fire burning in the middle, taking this as the reason. This is the complete purification of fire. If not, it can also be done: sitting in a hole in the wall, or a hole in the window, or nearby, focus your attention on whichever direction of the limb feels the touch of the wind. This is the complete purification of wind. Fill it with anything such as blue lotuses, girikarni, etc. with stems, as well as bright saffron, cloths, vessels, blue water lilies, etc. Or, on a blue cloth stretched like the surface of a large drum, draw or do not draw a mandala with any pigment such as nilakangpa, blue palasha, blue eye medicine, etc., and completely separate it with any discordant color, even black. Sit comfortably on a mat between it and the sun, and begin to meditate. This is the complete purification of blue. The same method applies to yellow, red, and white. The difference here is that what was blue before, now the colors such as yellow are taken as the object. Furthermore, light a butter lamp inside a vase, seal the mouth of the vase, and make a hole in it that is not too big. Place it facing the wall, and contemplate the mandala of appearance created on the wall by the light of the butter lamp emanating from there, which remains for a long time. This is the complete purification of consciousness. In a place covered with any wall, coarse cloth, or felt, make a hole the size of a span and four fingers wide, and begin to meditate. This complete isolation is the complete purification of space. For the time being, it should be understood that these are the special features of these purifications. Whether done or not, these nine exhaustions are called holding and appearance.

Two signs arise. Among them, the sign of holding onto the depletion of water is: like foam and bubbles mixed together, appearing in a shaking state, and abiding in this state. If you make effort, you can avoid this fault; if you don't make effort, there will be a fault. If you don't make effort, it will be considered the fault of depletion. The sign of appearance is: like a jewel wind banner resting in the sky, or like a mandala of a jewel-like mirror, appearing in a completely unshakable state, and abiding in this state. The sign of holding onto the depletion of fire is also: shaking like breaking and falling, and abiding in this state. If you don't make effort, here it will be considered the fault of depletion, and slightly close to ashes, embers, dust, and smoke. The sign of appearance is: like a red garment resting in the sky, or like a golden wind banner, or like a golden hat, abiding nearby. The sign of holding onto the depletion of wind is: like the steam rising from freshly boiled milk, and abiding in this state. The sign of appearance is: like sitting still, without shaking. The depletion of blue is: like a flower without stamens and stems. The stamens and stems, and changing the petals into something else, this is considered the fault of depletion. The sign of appearance is: surpassing the mandala of depletion, appearing in the sky like a jewel wind banner. The same principle applies to the depletion of yellow and so on. The sign of holding onto the depletion of consciousness is: becoming like a mandala born on the ground or a wall. The sign of appearance is: like the appearance of a thick cloud that is very clear. The sign of holding onto the depletion of space is: like a gap with edges of walls, etc., even if it grows, it will not increase. The sign of appearance is: abiding like the center of the sky, and if it grows, it will increase. Therefore, here one should understand the difference between the holding of depletion and the signs of appearance, whether done or not done. For these nine signs, one should also abide in comfort, abandoning the separate thoughts about colors and the attention to characteristics. Speaking on the depleted ground
