Therefore, through words such as "abandoning samsara for immeasurable kalpas, turning away from samsara, and ultimately destroying samsara," and statements such as "exhausting, subduing, and not generating what has not yet arisen," it can be understood that these are the actions of the path of meditation. So, how many kinds of these actions are there? Because it is continuous, there are: small, medium, and large. The small is further divided into small, etc., and with these distinctions, it can be understood as having nine types. Thus it is said. The terms "unfavorable factors and antidotal factors" should be understood together. The three types, small, medium, and large, are the fundamental categories. If each of them is further divided into small, medium, and large, they become nine types, namely: small of small, medium of small, large of small, small of medium, medium of medium, large of medium, small of large, medium of large, and large of large. Just as with antidotal factors, unfavorable factors should also be understood. Among them, the small of the small path is from abandoning the great of great conceptualization to the great of great abandoning the small of small. Because it is impossible to have a great path at the beginning, or the great path cannot be merely great, or it is impossible to have great afflictions when the great path arises. Just as one first removes the large stains from clothes and then removes the fine stains; and just as a small light can dispel great darkness, and the small can be dispelled by the large, these metaphors are applicable here. White Dharma has power, while black Dharma is weak. Therefore, even a moment of the noble path, from the absence of samsara, is transmitted one after another, thereby fundamentally eliminating firm afflictions. Master Vasubandhu also said: Just as bathing with turmeric can eliminate diseases accumulated over a long time, and just as a small lamp in a moment destroys great darkness. Among them, the great of great conceptualization refers to offering material goods to the Three Jewels for as many kalpas as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River due to being separated from the Perfection of Wisdom.

Whatever is said, such as "giving alms." Abandoning this (almsgiving) and taking the small path, listening to the Prajnaparamita and diligently practicing it, the merit will increase even more. Why is that? Because of the reason that "the path of the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas who can attain the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment is this." The medium of great distinction is that, with it (almsgiving), in the same kalpa, from the beginning of the constant stream, to the Tathagata, Arhat, perfectly enlightened Buddha, offering tangible offerings. What is said by "it" is to be separated from the Prajnaparamita. Similarly, this should be applied to the following (situations) as well. Abandoning this (almsgiving) and taking the medium of the small path, if one diligently practices the Prajnaparamita, then this Dharma will increase merit. Why is that? Because of the reason that "transcending the lands of the Shravakas, etc., one will attain the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment." The small of great distinction is that, again, one abides in the same kalpa, surpassing giving, morality, patience, diligence, meditation, and cultivating wisdom. Abandoning this (almsgiving) and taking the great of the small path, another person has almsgiving, etc., for one day, and their merit will increase even more. Why is that? Because abiding in this (Prajnaparamita) can perfect all Dharmas, so the reason why the Prajnaparamita is born to the great Bodhisattvas is what is said. Another person refers to having diligent practice of the Prajnaparamita. Similarly, this should be applied to the following (situations) as well. The great of the medium distinction is that, again, in the same kalpa, it surpasses giving Dharma to sentient beings. Abandoning this (almsgiving) and taking the small of the middle path, another person gives Dharma for one day, and their merit will increase even more. Why is that? Because

Whatever is inseparable and separate from the Prajñāpāramitā, is spoken of with the reason of being inseparable and separate from the Omniscience itself. The intermediate discrimination refers to, in so many eons, from the four dhyānas and the four mindfulnesses, etc., up to striving for the eighteen unshared dharmas of the Buddhas, this is what is said. If one does this, then it is most able to increase merit. If one strives diligently day and night for them, then that is what increases merit. Why is that? Whatever is inseparable and separate from the Prajñāpāramitā, is from the Omniscience itself, irreversible, and without and with a place of reversal, spoken of with the reason of definitely arising in one extreme. The small of the intermediate discrimination refers to, in so many eons, with generosity of material possessions and inner correct placement, and with mindfulness, dedicating those to the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment, this is what is said. Abandoning this, the great aspect of the intermediate path refers to, merely knowing one day's generosity of material possessions, that is what increases extremely great merit. Why is that? Because the dedication of the Prajñāpāramitā is said to be supreme. The great aspect of the small discrimination refers to, in so many eons, for all the roots of virtue of the Buddhas, Bhagavat, and the Śrāvaka Saṃgha of the past, future, and present, rejoicing and dedicating them to the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment, this is what is said. Abandoning this, the small aspect of the great path refers to, another person rejoicing in the root of virtue for one day, and dedicating it to the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment, then that is what increases extremely great merit. Why is that? Because the rejoicing dedication of the Prajñāpāramitā is spoken of with the reason of being supreme. The intermediate of the small discrimination refers to, having intention is what increases a lot of merit through examination, and having intention.
