Ultimately, it will become the cause of liberation from suffering. Therefore, one who possesses patience should eliminate laziness, idleness, and discouragement, and make the mind joyful and focused on virtuous actions. If one dwells in laziness, idleness, and discouragement, then all virtuous actions from generosity to wisdom will not exist. The four means of attraction will not exist. The qualities of training, the four immeasurables, mindfulness, right exertion, the bases of miraculous power, the five faculties, the seven branches of enlightenment, and the eightfold noble path will not be attained. Offering to the Three Jewels, helping others, and relying on virtuous friends will not exist. Therefore, for virtuous actions, one should strive constantly, like extinguishing a fire burning on one's head and clothes. One should treat the Three Jewels, the lama, and fellow practitioners of pure conduct equally, and generate respect for the precepts. For all sentient beings, one should generate the thought of them as one's parents, khenpo, acharya, and teacher, and diligently avoid disrespect, contempt, hatred, anger, pride, and disdain. Thus, if body, speech, and mind can be used for virtuous actions, then body and mind will feel light and comfortable, and one will be endowed with many virtuous qualities. Thus, for a person who dwells in virtue, gods, nagas, yakshas, gandharvas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and so on will rejoice, respect, and protect them. Therefore, one should abide in aspiration and faith, rely on virtuous friends, listen to the sacred Dharma, contemplate it properly, keep its meaning in mind, make offerings to the lama and the Three Jewels, practice the four means of attraction, the four noble truths, the six recollections, and the seven noble riches, abide in conscientiousness and shame, respect the precepts, not examine the faults of others, examine one's own faults, abandon pride, abide in peace and gentleness, abide in mindfulness and awareness, make the actions of body, speech, and mind meaningful, abide in solitude, cultivate shamatha and vipassana, and keep in mind the faults of samsara and the qualities of nirvana, and all dharmas.

Now, one should think of it as like an illusion, like a moon in water, like an eye disease, like a mirage, like a dream, like an echo, like a city of gandharvas, like a magic trick, like a rainbow, like lightning, like a water bubble, like a reflection in a mirror. Think of it like the twelve similes of illusion, and think of it as naturally luminous and unborn. In this way, a person who has joy, desire, and faith in virtue should generate the perception of the root of samsara, the eight worldly dharmas, as like fire, like weapons, like poison, like thorns, and in a place conducive to samadhi, know the measure of food, and not sleep at night and dawn, but diligently practice yoga. Furthermore, starting from pleasing sentient beings, one should constantly and respectfully cultivate love and compassion without interruption towards all sentient beings in the ten directions. If love and compassion moisten the mind, hatred and anger will subside. The noble Nagarjuna also spoke of the benefits of love: Giving delicious food three times a day is not as good as generating a moment of love for sentient beings; no rain can match its merit. Gods and humans will become friendly, and they will also protect you, your mind will be at ease, happiness will increase, you will not be harmed by poison and weapons, you will obtain enjoyment without effort, and you will be reborn in the Brahma world. Even if you do not become liberated, you will obtain the eight qualities of the Dharma of Love. Thus it is said. Furthermore, the benefits of love and compassion should be understood from the Sutra of Moon Lamp and the Sutra of Gathering the True Dharma. Furthermore, one should constantly and always remember the impurity of one's own and others' bodies. As it is said in the Precious Garland: Most attachment to women arises from the mind that thinks women's bodies are pure. In reality, there is not the slightest bit of purity in a woman's body. The mouth is a container of rotten saliva, and the teeth are a container of unclean filth. The nose is a container of pus and nasal mucus. The eyes are a container of eye dirt and tears. The belly is a container of feces and urine, and the lungs and liver. Foolish people do not see these things in women, and therefore become attached to their bodies. Ignorant ones
