It changes. The dependence on the teacher is shown by the two terms "gratitude" and "grateful person," which demonstrate the ritual for generating a dhāraṇī. Like this, remembering the kindness of obtaining the Three Refuges and so on in relation to the Bhagavan (Sanskrit, Bhagavān, भगवन्, Blessed One), one will surely accomplish it as he said. Because the dhāraṇī he spoke of is of great importance, one thinks it must be generated. Whoever is grateful will surely generate the dhāraṇī, just as practicing the dhāraṇī is to repay the kindness of the Bhagavan. Because he is by nature grateful, he is a grateful person. The dependence on the Dharma is shown by "desiring the Dharma" and so on, which demonstrate the ritual for generating a dhāraṇī. Because whoever desires and craves the Dharma will surely generate the dhāraṇī, because that is the excellence of the Dharma. To be delighted in the Dharma is whoever deeply enters the Dharma, because he values it. Such a person will not fail to generate the dhāraṇī. How could someone who strives for patience in the profound Dharma not generate the dhāraṇī? Because it is extremely profound. For the sake of others, this dhāraṇī should also be generated, therefore it is said, "Bodhisattva Mahasattva strives for dhāraṇī" and so on. With the distinction of Dharma and wealth, two kinds of distribution are shown. There are two kinds of distribution, the distribution of Dharma and the distribution of wealth. By explaining the manner of "and," the nature of distribution is shown, therefore it is shown that there is no clinging of the mind. Small, few, and many show things, numbers, and both. Small is because the thing is small. Few is because the number is small. Many is because the thing and the number are many. Although it is showing the meaning of the dhāraṇī, a general display is still made. Because doing gratitude and so on is also necessary elsewhere, it is said, that is the concluding remark for showing that meaning. When explaining, proclaiming the benefits is twofold, obtaining the irreversible ground and unsurpassed Bodhi.

It is the generation of the mind [of enlightenment]. Moreover, here, the Able One (Shakyamuni Buddha) mainly reveals two fruits. How is it? It is said: The fruits such as the heavenly realms, etc., can be realized from other teachings. All that the Blessed One taught is to bestow birth as gods and humans, etc., and to not be separated from kingship, etc. These two fruits are mainly taught because they are the cause of definitely becoming great enlightenment, and also because they are the basis. Obtaining the irreversible stage is only for bodhisattvas. In the previous chapter, bodhisattvas were mentioned. Generating the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment is only done by those who are not bodhisattvas, so in the later chapter, bodhisattvas were not mentioned. Now, asking the name will be spoken, for oneself and For the benefit of others, in order, both the asking and the need are shown. Or because the meaning is great, the question is repeated with two words. "What is this called?" shows the asking of the name. To dispel the doubt that asking the name is unnecessary, the need is shown by "How should this be held?", which is the phrase "How should this be held?" at the time of establishing names. Therefore, the act of establishing names later is shown to be the need for asking. Or "What is this called?" is asking for one's own benefit. "How should this be held?" is asking for the benefit of others, and if those people want to hear the name of the Dharma aspect in order to establish names, how should they be made to hold this Dharma aspect if others hold it? That is the meaning of this phrase. Or because this Dharma aspect is of great significance, one asks the name again and again with a mind of faith and desire. The word "again" is to include what has not been said, so with two words it is shown that one wants to hear one's own name, although it has been asked generally, but in order to include oneself, it is said "How should this be held?". Now, the giving of names will be shown, this is only according to the order, with the objects of cause and effect, four kinds of names are established, therefore not too few and not too many.
