Surrounded by seven layers. In the water, twelve yojanas in length and twelve yojanas in width. Vast, prosperous, peaceful, and with good harvests. Many beings and densely populated. The streets between the cities are level and uniform. Beautiful, filled as if painted with five hundred pictures. Beings are young and free from poverty. Bridges are well-constructed in between. Around the city, the outer layer is exquisitely adorned and surrounded by seven precious gems. The railings of those seven precious gem fences are made of Jambu River gold. Tall and proportionate. From the top of all the railings grow trees of seven precious gems, bearing fruits of seven precious gems. From all the trees that grow from the railings, precious banners emerge. The second railing is connected to all other trees. All these cities are covered with nets of golden bells, and when the wind blows those golden bells, they produce soft, pleasant, and delightful sounds, just like a band with five branches, when struck and sung by skilled musicians, produces soft and pleasant sounds. It is extremely beautiful, and each garden has five hundred ponds, each pond being about a yojana (approximately 11-16 kilometers) in circumference. All around these ponds grow seven-jeweled lotuses, such as utpala flowers, kumuda flowers, and pundarika flowers, which are radiant and beautiful. These flowers cover the water and emit the fragrant scents of utpala flowers, lotuses, kumuda flowers, and pundarika flowers. These flowers are about the size of a chariot wheel in diameter. Blue flowers show blue color, appear blue, and look blue; yellow flowers show yellow color, appear yellow, and look yellow; red flowers show red color, appear red, and look red; white flowers show white color, appear white, and look white. In all the ponds, there are geese, cranes, karandakas, and sarasa birds making sounds. All the gardens are without owners and without boundaries, and are called Rajagriha. 'Na' refers to the place where the Bhagavan resides, and Vulture Peak Mountain refers to the palace. Why is it a palace? Because the seven Buddhas of the past have resided there and taught the Dharma. Vulture Peak Mountain is piled up. Why is it said to be piled up? Because it is made of four kinds of jewels: gold, silver, ruby, and sapphire, etc., decorated like Mount Meru, so it is a palace. The size and decoration of Mount Meru are as follows: tall, round, reaching the sky, vast, holding all plants, full of flowers, garlands, and various fragrances, groups of non-humans, humans, or gandharvas wander within it, and many beings such as yakshas, rakshasas, and flesh-eaters dwell there. These beings wander in the south. Groups of various animals wander within it, such as lions, tigers, elephants, rhinoceroses, bears, brown bears, leopards, buffaloes, chakravakas, unicorns, blue bulls, cows, deer, red deer, and groups of monkeys wander within it. These beings wander in the north. There, hundreds and thousands of birds reside, such as parrots, partridges, cuckoos, and orioles, etc.
