The mind that thinks the ego-grasping exists as it is, is also controlled by its own power, so when it is understood that this consciousness has not arisen from the beginning, even the notion that there is only consciousness is abandoned, and therefore the selflessness of phenomena is also abandoned. Why is it said that abandoning the notion that there is only consciousness is abandoning the selflessness of phenomena? Because the cause of the aggregates and so on being selfless gives rise to the notion that there is only consciousness, therefore, if the notion that there is only consciousness is abandoned, then the selflessness of phenomena is abandoned, which is inferring the cause from the result. How then is the notion that there is only consciousness abandoned? (Buddha) said: Why is that? Secret Lord, because the very nature of the mind is fully known, neither the initial extreme nor the final extreme can be found. Thus, if one searches for the extreme of where one's own mind initially arose, that extreme cannot be found. Thus, because there is no initial extreme, the final extreme of cessation cannot be found either, so neither the initial nor the final extreme can be found. Thus, because there is no initial extreme, the mind is revealed as unborn. Thus, if it has not arisen from the beginning, then what are those consciousnesses that know the apprehended and the apprehender to appear as they are? Thinking thus, abandoning the notion that there is only ultimate consciousness, it is therefore said that the selflessness of phenomena is also abandoned. Meditating in such a way and abandoning the selflessness of phenomena will also be perfected in two kalpas. Now I will explain the order of the arising of the mind of enlightenment of the Joyful One.

In countless hundreds of thousands of kotis, it is said to accumulate immeasurable merit and wisdom. The perfection of nature means being completely grasped by immeasurable wisdom. From "the faculties and near faculties, etc., pay homage" to "between." That perfection of nature should also be combined with the perfection of abandonment. The perfection of abandonment means being grasped by immeasurable wisdom and means, and surpassing the realms of hearers and solitary buddhas. The perfection of power means that gods, asuras, and all beings including the world pay homage, as well as Indra, Brahma, Isvara, and near Isvara, etc., pay homage. The perfection of characteristic means the arising of a mind that is extremely devoid of self-nature. To accomplish that characteristic, the perfection is like this: from "the very nature of praise is not a substance" to "separated from eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind." In this regard, the so-called accumulation of immeasurable merit and wisdom in immeasurable and countless kalpas, a koti kalpa means one hundred billion. A hundred thousand means a trillion kotis. Immeasurable and countless means that even those trillion koti kalpas are immeasurable and uncountable in generating the initial aspiration, or starting from meditating on the selflessness of persons, the cause of accumulating merit and wisdom will perfect the characteristic of the first ground, the Joyful Ground, which is extremely devoid of self-nature. The so-called being completely grasped by immeasurable wisdom and means means that wisdom makes all dharmas understand their nature. Means means that by the power of great compassion, all sentient beings are matured and liberated. Immeasurable means that wisdom and means themselves are immeasurable. Thus, by wisdom understanding that all dharmas are without self-nature, thereby abandoning afflictions, etc.; by means maturing and liberating sentient beings, thereby possessing the qualities of abandoning evil destinies, etc., therefore it is the perfection of abandonment. The so-called completely grasped means that the mind of enlightenment is like that.

Therefore, the perfect abandonment of wisdom and immeasurable means refers to completely mastering it. The so-called "far beyond the realm of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas" also refers to having such wisdom and immeasurable means, surpassing the views of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas. It refers to the non-Saints or their realm of activity, which is also a perfect abandonment. Worshipped by gods, non-gods, and the world, worshipped by Indra, Brahma, Ishvara, and near-Ishvara, etc., refers to sentient beings such as the worldly Ishvara, etc., who have the power to be offered and worshipped by capable beings, so it is the perfection of power. If the Bodhicitta is formless, how do they pay homage? Even if formless, they have obtained those merits and supernatural powers, and thus bow and pay homage. Furthermore, one should also pay homage to the Bodhisattva who possesses such a mind. Furthermore, the so-called "like the nature of emptiness" means that the Bodhicitta does not have the nature of grasper and grasped, and like the sky, it is the nature of emptiness. The so-called "non-material" means that because it is such a nature of emptiness, it is not the nature of matter such as fine dust. The so-called "without characteristics" means that the Bodhicitta, which is speculated by non-Buddhists and others, and which is the arising and ceasing of all the three realms, is not like that. The so-called "non-characteristic" means that the Bodhicitta is not the characteristic of being blue and yellow, etc., as it is. The so-called "far beyond distraction" means that distraction refers to conceptual thought, which is without conceptual thought. The so-called "immeasurable like the sky" means that because it is so without conceptual thought, it is like the sky. The sky cannot be measured as only this big, and similarly, the merits of the Bodhicitta cannot be measured either. The so-called "becoming the place of all dharmas" means that all dharmas refer to conditioned dharmas. If these conditioned dharmas are broken down into the various parts of fine dust, or broken down into forms such as illusions and mirages, they will become the nature of emptiness, and because they are of the same taste as the Bodhicitta, they become the place of all dharmas.
