"Grags." This means, it is the meaning of being called "Vajradhatu." "Having stayed as appropriate," means staying in accordance with how it should be. Here, what exactly is "as appropriate"? If the ground has been completely purified, then apply ointment, wipe, sprinkle with scented water, and scatter flower petals. This is what is appropriate. However, if it is an unpurified ground, then dig it up and remove chaff, ashes, bones, rubble, charcoal, and so on. Making it even and so forth is also what is appropriate. Judging from the differences in the thoughts of sentient beings, examining auspicious dates, stars, and planets is also what is appropriate. Based on the manner of later transformations, the ground of the mandala is also spoken of as the sound called mandala. "Having stayed in its very center," it is said, but since one does not know how to stay, therefore, it is said, "Meditate on the great mudra of the great being." The great being here is the Bhagavan Vajrasattva. His great mudra is the mudra of the body. Meditating on it extensively for a while means placing oneself in the yoga of one's own deity, and being endowed with the yoga of Vajrasattva, one is fully endowed with the assembly of bodhisattvas who have appeared in the past, future, and present, making oneself the cause, and being fully endowed with scripture and realization made manifest, and so forth. All formations are equality itself, and one should especially believe that oneself is of one taste with emptiness. Therefore, one should view oneself as complete in the accumulation of merit and wisdom. Then, one should think that oneself is being empowered as the regent by all the Buddhas. Then, one should think that oneself is being born in the abode of Tushita. There, sitting on the Dharma seat, one teaches the sutra teachings, such as the Noble Perfection of Wisdom, to the Bodhisattvas. Then, looking at the lineage and so forth, one descends here and takes complete birth. Gradually, from being a child and a young woman, one especially believes that oneself abides in youth, showing the place of craftsmanship, abiding among the retinue of consorts, renouncing, and

One should especially cherish youth and ascetic practices. Because dwelling in this, there is nothing that cannot be accomplished, so beginning with the first dhyana, then the special dhyana, the second dhyana, the third dhyana, the fourth dhyana, the sphere of infinite space, the sphere of infinite consciousness, the sphere of no-thing-at-all, and the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, one should especially cherish entering into samadhi in sequence. Then again, in reverse order, descending from the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception to the sphere of no-insurpassability. Then again, from the sphere of no-insurpassability to the special dhyana, then the third dhyana, then the sphere of infinite space, then the sphere of nothing-at-all, then the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. Then again, in reverse order, from the sphere of infinite consciousness, then the second dhyana, then the first dhyana, then the sphere of no-insurpassability, then again entering into the first dhyana, and after the first dhyana, the special dhyana, then the second dhyana, then the third dhyana, then the fourth dhyana, then entering into the smallest of the small of the fourth dhyana. Then the medium of the small, the large of the small, and again the small of the medium, the medium of the medium, entering into the large of the medium. Then again, the small of the large of the fourth dhyana, the medium of the large, manifesting the large of the large. Thus, as shown, the entering into samadhi is to be remembered even to the extent of a single word, in order to become familiar with the path. Then, abiding in the great of the great of the fourth dhyana, traveling by means of magical power to the Akanistha heaven, abiding there, looking upon the unprotected realms of sentient beings, abiding in the unwavering samadhi that is primarily emptiness, the door to liberation. Then, being awakened by all the Buddhas, bestowing the prophecy of perfect enlightenment. Then, in the manner previously mentioned, the manifestation of perfect enlightenment by means of the five mantras, the blessings, and so forth, are the actions of all the Tathagatas.
