Understanding that bliss is enhanced by emptiness is meditation. At that time, all appearances are liberated into awareness. Causing awareness to understand that it is enhanced by emptiness is emptiness. Meditating in this way to attain the nature of the three bodies is the result, which is the contradictory example of E Vaṃ. The non-contradictory meaning of E Vaṃ is: E is the dharmadhatu that is free from the three kinds of conditions, that which is naturally pure. Vaṃ is the sudden arising of the three appearances due to conditions. Alternatively, E is the dharmadhatu of non-thought, Vaṃ is the arising of thought merely as an illusion. Although many collections of expressible letters arise, as long as the nature of thought and non-thought has not arisen, it is understanding the meaning of suchness as unborn. The letters E Vaṃ cause oneself to understand. For an unawakened individual experiencing the third empowerment, looking outward, four moments are identified; looking inward, four joys are identified. At that time, the first joy is the Dharma Mudra, which arises from the experience of the supreme joy of Karma Mudra, at the time of co-emergent joy, considering it to be the Mahamudra is an example. In terms of meaning, the skillful means of memory and the wisdom of non-memory, when the venerable guru indicates with signs, from the union, the four moments of meaning, the four joys of meaning, and the four mudras of meaning arise. At the time of remembering anything, in one moment, various kinds of illusions arise, therefore various kinds of moments arise, and joy and displeasure arise from that, which is the first joy. That memory does not deviate from various appearances, therefore it is Karma Mudra. That memory is suddenly realized, knowing that the three places of birth, dwelling, and dissolution are the dharmadhatu of non-memory, is the moment when memory ripens into non-memory. Non-memory has nothing else before the mind, therefore it is the supreme joy. From the dharmadhatu that is not made by the mind, eighty-four thousand aggregates of Dharma can arise, therefore it is Dharma Mudra. Both memory and non-memory dissolve into the unborn dharmadhatu, and those two have no characteristics, it is the moment of being free from characteristics. Both memory and non-memory co-emerge in the nature of the unborn, therefore it is co-emergent joy. The nature of the unborn, memory and non-
