One should contemplate having six hands, adorned with headdresses and all other ornaments. Each should have various colors according to their respective families. All of these should be contemplated. That is to say, bodhisattvas and bodhisattvas' consorts should all understand their colors and hand symbols as being like the lords of their respective families. It is said in the mudra of Tara: One should contemplate Samantabhadra. This indicates a difference from the general teaching. Therefore, the bodhisattva Samantabhadra is of the same family as the goddess Tara, and the color and hand symbols should be contemplated as being like Tara. The last of Tara's right hands holds an utpala flower, while the last of Samantabhadra's right hands holds a lotus. Therefore, having completely removed the utpala, one should give the lotus. It is said: Maitreya holds a nagavriksha flower, the remainder are in the position of Vairochana. That is to say, the first of the right hands of the noble Maitreya holds the mudra of his own symbol, a nagavriksha branch with flowers. The remaining hand symbols should be contemplated as being like the Bhagavan Vairochana. Manjushri holds a bell and a supreme sword, likewise abiding. That is to say, the first of the right hands of the bodhisattva Manjushri is the mudra of the bell, with the tips of the thumb and forefinger touching, and the first of the left hands pressing down. The remainder are the mudras of Samantabhadra, one should contemplate them in that way. That is to say, the later hand symbols are all the same as the noble Samantabhadra. There are two on the eastern side, that is to say, in the second mandala sequence, two bodhisattvas are arranged in each of the four directions, east and so forth. Kshitigarbha and Maitreya, that is to say, Maitreya of the Tathagata family and Kshitigarbha of the Vajra family, each with the same lord of the family, body color, and hand symbols, should be placed in the east. In the south are Vajrapani and Akashagarbha, it is taught that they are universally present. That is to say, the bodhisattva Akashagarbha is of the Ratnasambhava family, and Vajrapani is of the Vajra family, these two each with the same lord of the family and body color, etc., should be placed in the south. In the west are Lokeshvara and Manjushri.

Furthermore, the bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara, lord of the lotus family, and Mañjuśrī, of the Tathāgata family, should be placed in the west according to their respective family lords' colors and emblems. In the north are Sarvanivāraṇaviṣkambhin and Samantabhadra, who are well-known. These two bodhisattvas of the karma family should also be placed in the north, in accordance with their family lord and body color, as stated in all the tantras and sadhanas. Therefore, it should be understood accordingly. Thus, their samaya is stated here: Forms, etc., Vajra goddesses. This means that how to generate the bodhisattvas and how to place them in the mandala, these deities can also be called samayas. What are they? They are the form goddess and so on. Vajra means the nature of wisdom or the meaning of being born from it. Residing together with this method is: The two hands hold their own symbols. This means that these goddesses should be visualized as residing in the form of the consorts of these bodhisattvas. Among them, all have six hands. The first pair of right and left hands holds the mudras of their respective symbols, which will appear below, and are placed in their respective directions. Form is the two hands holding a mirror. This is to show that all dharmas, such as the body of the Tathagata, are like images. The form goddess holds a mirror with her first two hands and resides in the southeast corner of the second layer of the mandala. Sound is the two hands holding a lute. This means that one should believe or trust in what is seen as an image through sound. Therefore, the sound goddess resides in the southwest corner and plays the lute. Smell is the two hands holding a conch bowl. This means that one should understand the selflessness of the dharmas that are seen and heard in this way. Therefore, the smell goddess holds a conch bowl, a container of fragrance, in her two hands and resides in the northwest corner. Taste is holding a container in the hand. This means that one should become accustomed to the practice from above, for the sake of understanding the selflessness of the dharmas in this way. Therefore, the taste goddess holds a container filled with nectar and should be visualized in the northeast corner. Touch is completely embracing the vajra.
