English

From entering any mandala, through obtaining vase initiation etc., becoming a yogi who understands secrets and supreme secrets etc., this is just a name. In this way, he has shown the common qualities of all yogis. Now, the qualities of entering practice are proclaimed, saying "as in the ritual" etc. The so-called "obtaining permission" refers to obtaining permission from the teacher in the past, and later obtaining one's own permission. Among them, the former should be generally understood, and the latter is specifically referred to. As in the ritual, subduing mantras with the four yogas refers to the seed syllable of one's own deity. Practicing as in the ritual is to please it through the stages of the initial yoga etc. In order to obtain what was mentioned earlier etc., one will enter practice, otherwise not. He himself possesses wisdom, that is, through knowing that all inconceivable things are in the form of a mandala wheel, one realizes because there is no external appearance. Apart from what is said here, the teacher has also said, "The only secret union, through knowing the three vehicles, realizes suchness." etc., these should also be understood here. Immediately after that, everything is briefly summarized, and the perfection of the practitioner is proclaimed. Now, in a pleasing place, one becomes very supple, and the body becomes very supple, therefore one will touch happiness. Touching happiness, through samadhi, one will know as it is, therefore, in order to show a pleasing place, "where" etc. is said. The so-called "where" does not refer to specific things, but to understand generally. Specifically, "immaculate water etc." etc. are proclaimed. Immaculate, that is, water etc. are also like that, therefore it is said so. Is it just these? No, the best of trees, such as mango trees etc., are decorated in the form of garlands all around nearby, this is called "covering". The so-called mountain is not only characterized by closeness, but in reality, wisdom arises from the complete purification of the mind. In order to purify such a place in an external form, therefore sandalwood etc. are mentioned, this is a description of the place. Sandalwood is the sun and the moon.

The urine, feces, etc., included by the words 'etc.' should be controlled. Moreover, the square platform should be smeared with the nature of Vairocana, etc., and fragrant flowers, colors, shapes, etc., should be properly laid out on it, and other pleasing things such as banners should also be understood there. Such a place is suitable for meditation. There, sitting on a comfortable cushion in the vajra posture, add the words 'One should cultivate the Bhagavan Manjushri.' Among them, Bhagavan means that all things are subdued by mirror-like wisdom, etc. Those who are in accordance with these. Or, because of subduing, it is called Bhagavan, that is, subduing the four maras with non-dual wisdom. Moreover, afflictions depend on wisdom, so it is said that wisdom subdues afflictions. Those who are in accordance with this are like that. Or, because the powerful, etc., subdue the unpleasant, etc., it is called Bhagavan. Those who are in accordance with these are like that. 'Manju' has already been said. 'Voice' is the declaration, that is, the meaning of cultivating in the order that will be explained below. Now, in what order of the path should the Bodhisattva Manjushri be cultivated, what is the order of the path, the first yoga is explained for this, starting from 'first', etc. First refers to the four times, or the first of yoga. What are the four times? That is, 'dawn', etc., are mentioned. Dawn refers to the time when the dawn appears. This is only an approximate characteristic. Because most kalpas appear at that time, it is also said that one should understand at noon, etc. At that time, what should be cultivated as the first of yoga? That is, 'the center of the moon in the heart', that is, in one's own heart, in the center of the moon, the thing that has become one due to my long-term habituation, as the cause of the four immeasurables, radiating five colors of light, that is, having the unmistakable characteristics. That is, from the root desire of the tantric tradition, because all meanings arise, it abides in reddish-yellow, (Tibetan: མཾ་, Devanagari: मं, Romanized Sanskrit: maṃ, literal Chinese meaning: Mang). Placing it there is because it is the cause of compassion, etc.

Please grant your blessings! Furthermore, the Vajra Holder, by merely remembering my seed syllable, may compassion and so on arise in the continuum of those sentient beings, and for the sake of cultivating the four immeasurables that arise from the power of aspiration, it is said to possess compassion. Compassion is the wish for all sentient beings to be liberated from suffering and the causes of suffering. To keep that in mind is to possess it. Here, it is only a brief indication, and love and so on should also be understood. Among them, love is the wish to gather all benefits and happiness without exception. Joy is the satisfaction with whatever means and stages of the path manifest the fruit and accomplish the benefit of sentient beings. Equanimity is not engaging in activities such as praise by meditating on the nature of profundity and vastness. Among these, compassion is like the root, because all qualities are greatly increased by having only compassion as the basis. Therefore, love is like the trunk of a tree. Joy is like the branches. The two accumulations and so on are like the leaves. Other yogas are like the flowers. In that yoga, the complete ripening of one's own and others' continuums is like the fruit, as it is said. As it is said: Possessing compassion and love, for the suffering of sentient beings, acting with happiness greatly increases, and branches grow on the trunk. The nature of the mind itself, abandoning and taking are the leaves, the stream is unbroken by all aspirations, two aspects of dependent arising, because they ripen within one's own continuum, not like the Mimosa flower. Because self and other are completely ripened, one enjoys the fruit of compassion. Thus and so on, from the drop of liberation, the great teacher spoke. Therefore, these four Brahma-viharas should be understood in the places below, such as "Vajra heart, you." The vastness of the Dharma realm does not become invisible, because it changes like flowers and fruits. Purify kha and so on. That is to say, emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness. Having done these first, and then with mindfulness and so on, the wisdom that exists in the continuum is without self-nature and is not established anywhere.
