Because it transcends the existence and non-existence of the five colors. Like a dream, although it does not exist, it actually accomplishes things. Like a mirage, because it is only the object of the eye. Like the moon in water, because it is clearly one, but appears as many different ones. Like an echo in a valley, because the Dharma that is taught transcends existence and non-existence. Like an emanation, because it is only the appearance of each. Like a city of Gandharvas, because it is surrounded by various mandalas. Like an image in a mirror, because the two do not use each other. Like an eye disease, because it disappears as soon as it is seen. Like a wheel of fire, although it is one, it appears as many different ones. Like a water bubble, because although it can be seen, there is no substance inside. Like an illusion, because it can accomplish the benefit of sentient beings. These twelve similes of illusion, in order to manifest the conventional truth, until abiding in the essence of bodhicitta, the four behaviors similar to it, and the actions that are mainly the gestures of dance such as charm, and the mudras, and the mandalas, and the recitations, and the tormas, and the fire offerings, and the consecrations, and the offerings, and the empowerments, and the invitations, and the abidings, and the sendings, and other activities, and the teachings of the three samadhis such as the first practice, or practicing to understand its meaning, and the practice of the six perfections such as the complete giving, even so, if there is no attachment to it, one will abide in the illusion-like samadhi. If attachment arises to it, it will become an object of attachment, therefore, in order to master it, in order to show the fourth stage, the yogi who understands the nature of illusion, if he abides in that samadhi, then, at that time, the illusion itself will become bodhi. Even if it becomes a fault, is there no fault? That is not correct, because the self-luminous Suchness is beyond the discriminations of illusion and so on.
