Or, because it is not prophesied, names and forms, etc., as well as touch and attention, etc., feeling, perception, and mind, etc., cannot be recognized, so it is ignorance, i.e., the ālaya-vijñāna, which has the nature of equanimity. This is its meaning. Because it is to be abandoned by the antidote of great emptiness, it is the wisdom of the manifestation of great emptiness. The Buddhas have spoken and taught these terms in order to prevent one's own wishes, as the words themselves say. Its nature is: the moment of intermediate attachment, forgetfulness and confusion, unspeakable and sorrow, laziness and drowsiness as well. The seven moments of ignorance are to be known by the subtle yogi. Thus it is said that the ālaya-vijñāna is always associated with touch, attention, feeling, perception, and mind, but as before, the seven are all included in them, and should be explained separately. These are the subtle yogis, that is, the yogis who have subtle and very sharp wisdom, who are to be known, because the ālaya-vijñāna is to be known only by those who have sharp intelligence. Now, a name that is consistent with the meaning. It does not have the seed bindu, it does not arise from the gate of the wind, whatever manifestation is obtained is the nature of perfect accomplishment. Thus it is said that the seed letters A, etc., do not have bindu, that is, there are no subsequent vowels and accents, etc. Wind does not arise from the gates of the nostrils, that is, there is no relationship of coming and going. Because it only appears as the appearance of a boundary, the wisdom of manifestation itself is perfectly accomplished, and after the ālaya-vijñāna has transformed, it is completely, that is, accomplished in every way, and to say so is not the intention. Now is the conclusion. One hundred and sixty subtle natures, these are the cause of the wind-borne, arising day and night. Thus it is said, the nature of skillful means and wisdom and ignorance.

These one hundred and sixty natures arise one hundred and sixty times during the day and night. It is precisely because of this that they are subtle, since they are to be known by oneself. That which arises with the vehicle of wind, that is, from the cause of consciousness and action, is birth and cessation. It is not with a cause such as Ishvara, nor is it without a cause, since it has already been refuted. Because it is without a cause, either everything always arises or sometimes nothing arises, because it does not depend on another without a cause. It either always exists or becomes non-existent. Things sometimes arise from dependence. Thus it is said. Therefore, the three consciousnesses are mind, and the natures arise from mind, so the entire wheel of samsara is its nature, because it repeatedly arises and disintegrates. In order to negate that, one should meditate on the path in stages, such as emptiness, and that is not the intention. Now, from the perspective of the division of time, the order of arising: kshana, tatkshana, muhurta, blinking of an eye, and snapping of fingers. It is said that those natures arise in each kshana, each tatkshana, muhurta, etc., by experiencing that object or by recalling past objects. Then, the yogi with subtle views should recognize them based on the divisions of kshana, etc., otherwise, one will not be able to distinguish between mind and mental factors. When one discerns in which kshana a virtuous, non-virtuous, or neutral nature arises, one should thoroughly understand the distinctions and then manifest such samadhi. Otherwise, the samadhis will become mixed, and therefore the natures will not be negated. When one knows the difference between nature and consciousness through the practice that is within the realm of the extremely subtle mind, then one will quickly attain a pure mind, which is the condensed meaning and not the intention. Now, the characteristics of kshana, etc. A kshana is said to be a finger snap.

A moment is when one breathes in and out. Blinking is when the eyes close. Clapping is when two hands strike each other. Instants, etc., are their characteristics. Thus it is said. The sound of a small bell, however long it lasts, that is an instant. A mustard seed, however long it revolves, that is, revolves on the hand, etc., that is a "tangchik." The wind called life, however long it occurs in the heart, face, and nostrils, that is a moment. However long the eyes open and close, that is blinking. However long two hands clap, that is clapping. One should know these instants, etc., as their characteristics. The characteristic of time is explained for the purpose of fully understanding the characteristic of the arising of all phenomena. It is said thus: phenomena do not arise in a time shorter or longer than that, because they are very subtle. Therefore, yogis should recognize all phenomena by the divisions of time such as instants, etc., and having recognized them, should rely on the antidote that is in accordance with them, just like sound. Now, in order to show how the wheel of samsara arises with the power of consciousness connected with wind, and to refute them, that is, to show both. The wisdom of mere self-awareness is like the sky, without characteristics, but it has distinctions, it is the nature of night, woman, and boundary. Thus it is said. For a while, first, consciousness is the mere self-awareness that is to be realized by the direct perception of yoga, empty of nature, free from the appearance of object and subject, although it is the nature of the Dharmakaya, but consciousness is like the sky due to the power of the habitual imprints of beginningless ignorance, that is, similar to the sky, free from the characteristics of birth, aging, and death, however, having become the nature of object and subject, having become the coarse nature itself, due to the power of the darkness of ignorance, having forgotten its own nature, relying on the clinging to self and the clinging to what belongs to self, thus arises the nature of the eight consciousnesses. That is, the entering consciousness and the afflicted mind.
