Napa, untruth, determination, non-acceptance, giver, instigator, brave, shameless, seized, malicious, unruly, great deceitfulness - these forty characteristics are the nature of the spreading appearance. It should be known that what is generated by these and what is completely suppressed by what is the spreading appearance. What is attachment to desire? The mind is completely attached to the unattained object. What is attachment? The mind is completely attached to the unarisen object. What is joy? The mind is filled with a pleasing appearance. What is delight? It is more joyful than joy. What is satisfaction? Praising the owner in relation to the differences obtained. What is wonder? Embracing is the mind's complete attachment to a pleasing object. The rest is easy to understand. What is steadfastness? Having found certainty, it does not waver. What is diligence? Being free from laziness. What is pride? Thinking highly of oneself. What is action? What should be completely accomplished. What is theft? Taking what is owned by another. What is strength? Fighting with giants. What is joy? Having only joy as its object and possessing strong diligence, it is the mind that is fully equipped with armor and has fruits. What is the combination with joy? The mind that arises from arrogance, the mind that combines with non-virtue, etc., and has fruits. What is contention? The actions of body and speech caused by... will be free from any faults. What is clear speech? It is speech spoken without fault of the tongue and when the body is fully developed. What is truth? It is speaking words that correspond to things. What is untruth? It is speaking words that do not correspond to things. What is certainty? It is the mind that is free from doubt and its actions. What is non-acceptance? It is not wanting to possess all things as one's own. Who is a giver? It is one who completely gives away all one's desirable and undesirable things and has no attachment. What is encouragement? It is generating joy in the lazy. What is a brave person? It is one who can defeat anything and whose mind is free from fear. What is shamelessness? It is completely abandoning lineage and Dharma and doing what is improper. What is deception? It is deceiving others. What is malice? It is not speaking of the faults of afflictions. What is untamed? It is not listening even when confessing. What is cunning? It is engaging in deception. Deception is also the same situation. For these, one should also distinguish between inferior, intermediate, and superior according to the difference in mind and the difference in object. Whoever possesses it will also become like that, therefore it is called that. Its name is means, that is, whatever depends on what, and whatever appears similar to what, is called that. Manifestation expanding is also the nature completely expanding, that is, whatever exists in what, together with what. Or, the nature is confused and appears gross, that is, whatever universally arises in what. Or, it is the wind universally moving, that is, whatever is universally spread in what by the wind of what. Then, explaining the meaning of obtaining manifestation. Great wisdom itself is the root. That is, whatever is completely known by what, and the opposite of that is ignorance. Whatever corresponds to what, is called that. Manifestation is moving suddenly. Manifestation expanding is universally increasing. Obtaining is returning. These arise from ignorance. That is, attachment.
