Meditation is spoken of. Where the means of the bindu resides, contemplate by knowing its characteristics. This means that, for the position of the bindu above, one should also contemplate the characteristics of the samadhi of the subtle syllable Hūṃ. Then, where in the body and speech should that subtle samadhi be placed and meditated upon? It is said: The heart and the Brahma aperture, and the bindu is the path of the door. This means that the heart is in the heart center. The Brahma aperture is at the crown of the head. The bindu is the path of the nose. This means the throat. Therefore, meditate on the subtle samadhi there. The guru's instruction is that very place. Grasp the consciousness and wisdom. This means that the syllable Hūṃ of consciousness and wisdom should be measured only by the guru's oral instructions. This subtle samadhi can only be attained through the guru's oral instructions. It cannot be attained through other external paths, etc. Therefore, it is said: It is not through external paths, even the scriptures are far away. Why? It is said: The scriptures are easy to obtain, but its necessity is difficult to obtain. Then how should one know? It is said: The yogi who is skilled in means. And so on. Now, to show the means of reciting mantras, it is said: The dharma that sends forth before the mind. And so on. Among them, mind is the mind that is the basis of the aspect of consciousness. The mind is the beginning of all dharmas. Like this, from body, speech, and mind, the action of mind arises first, because after the mind thinks, the body and speech act. Like this, it is also said in the Treasury of Knowledge: Mind is the action of mind, it produces the actions of body and speech. Mind is pure and mind goes, this means the pure mind, not body and speech. Like this, even if the actions of body and speech are impure, it will not become a fault for the yogi whose mind is pure. Like this it is also said: The thoughts of a Bodhisattva, whether they are happy or unwholesome, all of them will become wholesome, therefore the mind is independent. Why? Mind goes, this means that the mind is distracted by the habits of virtue and non-virtue, and the mind goes towards Nirvana.

Therefore, in all thoughts and things. It means: the substance of body, speech, and mind. This is its summary. Therefore, the wise yogi should strive diligently to purify the mind. Body, speech, and mind are regarded as primary, showing that there is nothing other than oneself, and explaining the meaning. If the yogi wants to recite, he should abandon the distractions of the heart. It means: after the yogi abandons the heart, there is no other recitation. This is its summary, because the actions of body and speech are the form itself. Why? Because the seed is outside the cause. That itself is the mantra that produces actions from forms, etc., and is also regarded as ultimate, is the letter, because it arises dependently. For example, when saying the phrase "Che ge mo, Shānti Kuru," just saying "Che ge" does not produce the sound of "Shānti Kuru." If you say "Shānti Kuru," it will exceed "Che ge mo." Similarly, just saying "Che" will not produce "ge." Just saying "ge" will exceed "Che." Similarly, just saying those two letters, there is no "mo." Just saying "mo" will exceed "Che ge mo." Therefore, the mantras that are performed are only obvious speculations about things that arise dependently, and are not ultimate. Having thus explained the nature of the mantra, the method of reciting the mantra is taught, saying: The enjoyment of forms, etc., that exist, should be recited and combined with the seed syllable. It means: with the letter Hūṃ, visualizing forms, etc., as the true conventional truth, through that accumulation of merit, in this life's existence, as the fruit of enjoyment. What is the mantra to be recited? It is said: Revered by all beings. And so on. Among them, revered by all beings, is the nature of Vairocana, that is, the moon, crescent moon, and bindu, because it is the extremely pure Dharmadhatu itself, is wisdom itself. Similarly, abiding on the crown of the head. It means: the moon, crescent moon, and bindu should always be placed on top of the Hūṃ syllable. Always with the root as the tip. It means: always add a footstool below. Only showing those two meanings, that is, in the bindu filled with flavor. That is the meaning. So, what is such a seed syllable? It is said: The seed syllable of wisdom and consciousness itself. It means: the letter Hūṃ. Retinue
