Therefore, it was initiated (the question) in order to show that sentient beings are Buddhas. The answer to this is: Although sentient beings are Buddhas, they are obscured by sudden obscurations. This refers to the fact that the self-luminous nature of the mind is the Dharmakaya. Abandoning these obscurations is Buddhahood itself. This means that through the path of subsequent attainment, after countless eons, the sudden defilements are purified, and thus one becomes a Buddha, or through the path of direct perception, through the four mudras, just as seeing an image in a mirror, one can attain Buddhahood in one lifetime. Therefore, these sentient beings are the perfectly complete Buddhas, the Bhagavat. Worldly people, who have not understood the self-luminous nature of the mind through the path of direct perception and subsequent attainment, those who are attached to phenomena, having consumed the poison of attachment, faint in the three realms of samsara. Those goddesses who do not understand the nature of phenomena also faint because of this. Just as knowing it, one can abandon it like poison. This means that just as a person who has fainted from poison, after understanding the nature of the poison, the poison becomes medicine, abandoning the delusion of attachment to phenomena, one can attain non-abiding nirvana. Having thus explained the reality of phenomena, in order to explain the path of calming and insight meditation and the direct perception of emptiness, it is said: A fragment of poison, etc. It means that if one consumes poison without the blessings of mantra (mantra, Devanagari: मंत्र, Roman transliteration: mantra, literal meaning: incantation), tantra (tantra, Devanagari: तन्त्र, Roman transliteration: tantra, literal meaning: tantra) and yantra (yantra, Devanagari: यन्त्र, Roman transliteration: yantra, literal meaning: mandala), all people will die. Understanding the nature of poison refers to, through mantra (mantra, Devanagari: मंत्र, Roman transliteration: mantra, literal meaning: incantation), tantra (tantra, Devanagari: तन्त्र, Roman transliteration: tantra, literal meaning: tantra), the breath of the left nostril, and the contact of the joint of the left ring finger, yantra (yantra, Devanagari: यन्त्र, Roman transliteration: yantra, literal meaning: mandala) such as medicinal ointments, if one consumes poison, one can eliminate the disease of poison, therefore it is said, using poison to counteract poison, the poison will be exhausted. After giving a well-known example among doctors, another well-known example among worldly people is given, just as for a person suffering from wind disease, giving beans to eat. This means that just as a person with a large proportion of the wind element among the four elements, through weighing, uses light beans to eliminate wind disease, so too, for the reality of attachment and hatred, etc., existing in the three realms of samsara.

The knowing of existence itself, purified by the nature of existence, is the true discernment that is free from the eighty kinds of conceptualizations. Here, due to truly clinging to afflictions such as desire, one is born in the three realms of samsara. If one ascertains that without conceptualization, then the unwavering action, the samadhi of meditative absorption, arises. By realizing the emptiness of desire and so forth, with the undefiled vows, it becomes the primordial wisdom. As it is also said in the Glorious Supreme First: "Desire, hatred, and delusion, by showing inequality, are poison. If one relies on understanding the nature of reality, then it becomes nectar." So it is said. The example shown of the scriptures of concealing and utilizing is: "Just as water enters the ear, it will emerge again when poured out. Similarly, the grasping of things will be purified by that very method." So it is said. By relying on the Great Seal, one knows the nature of phenomena of inner and outer things. The second example shown of concealing and utilizing is: "If a person is burned by fire, warming oneself with fire again will be beneficial." Likewise, if one is burned by the fire of afflictions such as desire, clinging to the three realms with great desire, separating from clinging to the three realms with great hatred, and abandoning self and other with great delusion, is the path of calming and exhaling. By relying on the Great Seal, knowing the nature of phenomena of desire and so forth, one will be free from faults. Having explained the characteristics in this way, now explaining the meaning: "The actions of unpleasant beings, by what and what are they bound and transformed?" So it is said. The beings of the three realms, by the actions arising from unpleasant views of exaggeration and denigration, by what and what, such as the ten virtues and ten non-virtues, are transformed into higher and lower realms? To that, with the path of calming and exhaling, the knowing without conceptualization arises, and after knowing the suchness of virtue and non-virtue with insight, with the means of calming and insight, breaking through the gap of emptiness in the very nature of virtue and non-virtue, one will be liberated from the bonds of existence. Beings are bound by desire, and are also liberated by desire itself. So it is said. Arising together with joy and supreme joy.
