Without relying on anything else, solely through the arising of one's own and the union of causes, one holds the mind with a correct object. Thus, when the focus on the object becomes increasingly manifest, and as long as the mind can abide as desired, then one should know that tranquility has been perfected. The stages of meditation spoken of are limited to this, such as aspiration. Possessing the samadhi of aspiration and the effort of abandonment, being secluded from afflictions, being free from desire for existence is precisely being free from desire, and the cessation of suffering, all rely on these. Complete abandonment means utterly relinquishing all things and completely transforming for that purpose. Extreme grasping is agitation. Because of being able to control, it is an indriya (faculty). The five, such as faith, become indriyas because they attain mastery in order to generate supramundane dharmas, namely the faculty of faith, the faculty of diligence, the faculty of mindfulness, the faculty of samadhi, and the faculty of wisdom. Among these, having complete faith in the truth, the Three Jewels, and the results of karma is faith. Because one who intensely cultivates the supports of miraculous power, from seeing the signs, will generate certainty about the arising of superior qualities. One will generate complete faith in the realization of the teacher and the bodhisattvas, and this is the faculty of faith here. From the increase of faith, diligence and the others will also increase, therefore they become the five faculties. These are spoken of by "that" and so on. Practicing in desire is the state of one who is not settled. A worldly person is one who has not realized suchness. Right view is characterized by believing that all phenomena are without self-nature and by being certain of the next world. One should believe, that is, generate certainty about existence and so on. The remaining parts are easy to understand. Merely meditating on the faculties alone, they will increase in this way, just as it is difficult for demons and so on, as well as opposing factors such as disbelief, to overcome, and thus one obtains indestructible power, so it is said that one can obtain strength. Five, and so on. Among these, on the path of seeing, how to realize correctly, and so on.

is enlightenment, and also complete enlightenment. Its limbs are the seven limbs of complete enlightenment. Among them, the three, namely, discrimination of dharma, diligence, and joy, are aspects of higher vision, while pliancy, concentration, and equanimity are aspects of calm abiding. Mindfulness is the essence of both. Joy is the mind's delight in the object of focus. Concentration is the one-pointedness of mind on the object to be examined. Among these, mindfulness is the limb of the basis, because all things proceed by relying on it. Discrimination of dharma is the limb of self-nature, because enlightenment is its very nature. Diligence is the limb of determination, because it makes the ultimate object to be attained more stable. Joy is the limb of benefit, because it is the happiness of the mind. Pliancy, concentration, and equanimity, in terms of "by what, relying on what, what is without affliction," are the limbs of being without affliction. Because the non-concordant aspect of the cause of affliction, the bad state, is pliancy, therefore it is the cause of being without affliction. The place is concentration. The nature is equanimity. Thus, having obtained these limbs of enlightenment, seeing from one's own view that the afflictions to be abandoned have been abandoned, and in order to abandon what is to be cultivated and abandoned, it is briefly taught to cultivate the three aggregates, the noble eightfold path. The noble eightfold path means that noble ones are yogis in training, and they should cultivate this path in order to manifest liberation from afflictions. Therefore, these eight limbs are the limbs of the noble ones, so it is the noble eightfold path. These limbs are definite. When entering the path, right thought, purity, the limit of action, livelihood, and mindfulness are not possible. So, when entering the path, how does it become the dharma of accomplishing the eight limbs? From obtaining the supramundane dharma, its essence is the unpolluted form.
