The second is morality. Living in places where dogs sleep, and on roads trampled by many cattle, and in places where wild animals dwell, and so on. Furthermore, lying on ashes, shaving hair, going to bathe in places where sages have bathed, eating fruits and deep roots, keeping matted hair, wearing tree bark, and so on, are called asceticism. Acting in this way is called valuing morality and asceticism above all else. Doubting truth and jewels is called doubt. Attachment to the three realms is called desire. Generating hatred towards sentient or non-sentient beings is called hatred. Pride is the nature of an arrogant mind. It is also divided into seven types: pride, great pride, pride of pride, 'I am' pride, slight pride, and wrong pride. Great pride means being superior in lineage, having a beautiful form, being wealthy, learned, and thinking oneself superior to others, hence it is called great pride. Pride of pride means thinking oneself superior to those who are equal to the aforementioned, this is called pride of pride. 'I am' pride means that although the lineage is the same, one thinks oneself superior in form, learning, wealth, and discipline, this is called 'I am' pride. Manifest pride means saying that this person has a view of self, but I do not have a view of self, or saying that I understand the Dharma that transcends the world, but this person does not understand the Dharma that transcends the world, this is called manifest pride. Thinking that one's lineage and so on are slightly inferior is called slight pride. Saying that one has virtues when one has no virtues is called wrong pride. Ignorance means obscuring wisdom, hence it is called ignorance. Or not understanding the truth of suffering and so on is called ignorance. These afflictions cause sentient beings to wander in samsara. Or, the nature of body, speech, and mind is defiled, hence it is called affliction. Next, the practice of yoga is explained. Now it is...

It elucidates the Bodhi of the Yogacara school. In order to elucidate it, by what does one grasp the objects such as form as truly being external? It is grasped as truly existing by what the Thus-gone One has taught according to his intention. That is not truly existent when examined as one or many. If that is not truly existent, then what is the definite aspect of objects and times, etc.? In response to that, it is because of the power of the unabandoned habit of inverted conceptualization from immeasurable time that consciousness is grasped as being external. The meaning of that is what the Thus-gone One has spoken. How has he spoken? In the noble Buddha Avatamsaka Sutra, it is said: "O sons of the Victorious Ones, these three realms are only mind." Therefore, by meditating on mind-only, one will attain Bodhi. Consciousness is said to be true because it is the nature of consciousness. The aspect of the external is said to be false because it is not the nature of consciousness. Because the external is not true, the five aggregates, which are the nature of suffering and origin, are also not true. The afflictions that produce that are also not true. Knowing this way, one will be separated from the obscuration of afflictions. Because form and so on are not truly existent, they are not to be grasped. In this way, by what knowledge will one be separated from the obscuration of knowable objects? Being separated from those two is called the Thus-gone One. That is the explanation of the Bodhi of the Yogacara school. The Bodhi of the Madhyamaka school is to be explained. After that, the Madhyamaka is explained. Thus it is said. In that, as mentioned above, since consciousness is the nature of consciousness, it is called true. Is that something that exists? Or is it something that does not exist? Is it the nature of existence? Does it exist as one? Or does it exist as the nature of many? If it exists as the nature of one, then there is this fault: for example, why do paintings and so on become different? Because of the reason that they appear different, they are not one. If it were one, then the appearance of paintings and so on as different would become false. Why is it false? Because of appearing as various. The appearance of various is also due to various causes. In that, there is no characteristic of one. In this
