In the charnel ground, or in the abode of the Matri or at night, or in a secluded place or on the border, it is said that meditating there is excellent. The meaning of this is to be understood by distinguishing between outer and inner. Furthermore, the outer is that if a practitioner who is a beginner practices in a place that is secluded from the hustle and bustle of people, signs of accomplishment will arise. Those places are also where non-humans dwell, where a single tree grows, and the abode of the Matri, which is where yaksha women or rakshasa women dwell, a secluded place or border, or other than that, a place where non-humans gather, a place secluded from wild people and so on. The yogi dwells there, generating great compassion for all sentient beings. To the non-humans dwelling there, offer torma three times a day, and say to those non-humans: I am doing such and such, you should accomplish such and such, and urge them again and again. Those non-humans will also be pleased with the practitioner and will accomplish that task, and when that is accomplished, they will be able to accomplish the benefit of beings. What is the definitive meaning of this place? As it is said in the root tantra: The self-body is the supreme mountain, the great tree that grows from it, the top ripens the gods, the roots ripen the nagas and so on, the branches ripen humans and so on, that tree that ripens all, it is said to be excellent to dwell there. Where the breath does not flow, that is said to be the charnel ground, the abode of the Matri is emptiness, the lion's playful hand gesture. Not deceived by false appearances, difficult to understand, therefore it is night. Seed syllables, hand gestures, color, shape, and lineage are all absent. Secluded from hand gestures, fire offerings, and torma, that is the secluded place or border, and that is also the excellent meditation. What is said is the determination of the Tathagata. In order to show the extent to which one can act, when a little warmth is obtained, if one wants to act, or if one wants to accomplish, this is the very act. As it is said, the meaning of this should also be entered into the root tantra, which also says: If you want to act, whatever sixfold union
