I prostrate. Therefore, the phrase "forever, in all ways" has been explained in detail by the teacher. Here, I also want to explain it in this way, because those who seek refuge and other worthy offerings out of fear, what do they fear, and what spoke these words? This was explained by the abbot Shakya Hui in an alternating manner: "Burning and blazing desires, etc., the body is burned by flames, causing harm to all birthplaces, the mind is afraid of hell, to whom do I seek refuge today?" This is a detailed explanation. The explanation is like this: For those who are truly tormented by the flames of desire and so on, possessing a damaged body, fearing the hell that harms all senses, and seeking refuge and other worthy offerings, the phrase "forever, in all ways" is a detailed explanation. If someone asks, what is similar to those worthy of offering refuge and so on? Because it is not explicitly stated, it should be explained in this way: "The all-knowing one possesses all virtues, and does not decline. The only protector does not have faults and habitual tendencies." In "faults and habitual tendencies," "entering with habitual tendencies" means having habitual tendencies, that is, faults. So, what is a habitual tendency? To this, some who are proficient in the scriptures say that just like sesame seeds with flowers, even if the fragrant flowers are removed, a similar other fragrance will arise. Or, just like a person who is freed from monkeys, due to long-term habits, still walks like before. Similarly, even if sins have been abandoned, but because the sins of the noble hearers are to show firewood, and the fire of the noble path is not rapid, like charcoal burned by the inferior fire of sandalwood, similar to sins, the differences between mind and mental factors not stated in the scriptures, which remain in the continuum, that is a habitual tendency. Because likewise it was heard of the habitual tendency of attachment of the noble Shariputra, that is, when the limbs of the great elder Maudgalyayana

When the Brahmin renunciate, named Wealth Crested, was beaten with a stick and crushed like a sugarcane, King Ajatashatru (Unborn Enemy) handed him over to the doctors, saying, "Make him well within seven days. Otherwise, all your income will be confiscated." Because that teacher was old and had been beaten very badly, he could not be healed, and therefore it was feared that he would pass away. When he knew that he wanted to pass away, the noble Shariputra, who had the remaining imprints of habits from beginningless time, along with a retinue of seventy thousand monks, passed away in the early morning. Unable to bear his death, the great Elder Maudgalyayana's son, along with seventy-six thousand monks, also said that he would pass away. The Ganges River also carried the monastery on that day, so the abbot Piliṇḍavatsa said to the Ganges River, "Harlot, stop!" Because he was a Brahmin in his previous life, that was the imprint of his arrogance. Therefore, it is said that because of the dispute, he uttered a curse on the Ganges River. Therefore, he is called having habits like him. Therefore, because the firewood of afflictions is weak, and the fire of the noble path is very fierce, like something burned by the fierce fire of ghee and sesame oil, there is no fault, because it has been abandoned. Whose fault is it? It is said to be the protector. Just like in my continuum, no residual habits are left. Like this, in every way, you have completely destroyed the faults. Like this, it will be explained that for whom there is no such fault, and who possesses such qualities, those who desire liberation promise to take refuge and make offerings. Similarly, the Bhagavan does not have the faults as described, but only possesses qualities. That "also" word means to grasp the faults of the kind that have been described. The meaning of "fault" has already been said, and so has "without". "Only" is to hold firmly. Only one, not two.
