After that, at that time, one will be naturally liberated from the reality of samsara. Like that, to seek the abiding of the mind, one should also practice briefly and frequently, and if the mind sinks, one should raise one's spirits, and if the mind wanders, one should relax desires, etc., as before. If one becomes dull and wisdom cannot appear clearly, or if the mind becomes unusable, one should prostrate to special places, confess sins many times, and strongly pray for the arising of samadhi, according to the instructions. Above, when it is slightly easier to find the abiding, if one is not accustomed to resting without support, one will not benefit from the signless, so getting used to it is very important. The method of seeking the abiding of the mind with and without wind (292), because there is no placing of the mind on objects that appear as shapes and colors like pebbles and twigs, therefore the practice lineage holders use the term without support, and it is also said to be the key to making the mind stable. Second, regarding the signless calm abiding, it is divided into the method of seeking faultless calm abiding and identifying its samadhi. First, it is important to know the key to tightening and loosening. The object of tightening, the object of loosening, these three. The first is that in the stages of practice of Mahamudra, the objects of tightening and loosening mentioned at this time are consistent with the method of eliminating sinking and wandering, which are the faults of samadhi, as explained in the Sutra. That is to say, above, after obtaining various abidings of the mind through those methods of holding the mind, if the fault of sinking arises, it is eliminated by the object of tightening, and if the fault of wandering arises, it is eliminated by the object of loosening (293). In general, in the explanations of the Sutra's intent, the obstacles to samadhi are divided into many kinds such as wandering, regret, dullness, sleep, doubt, desire, craving, hatred, etc., but most can be summarized into two

Recognizing and abandoning excitement, recognizing the nature of sinking and excitement, and how to eliminate them, should be understood as explained in the context of the general discussion of calm abiding and insight. In short, a flawless samadhi of calm abiding must have both a clear awareness of the mind that is extremely clear and a state of single-pointedness in non-conceptualization. (294) The obstacle of the former is caused by sinking, and the obstacle of the latter is caused by excitement. Therefore, sinking and excitement are the main obstacles to cultivating samadhi, so the method of eliminating them is very important. In this regard, in the stages of meditation in the Sutra tradition, for sinking, there are methods such as raising the body, thinking about pleasant things, grasping the signs of appearance, etc.; for excitement, there are methods such as meditating on impermanence, observing the faults of distraction, meditating on calm abiding, etc. But here, the main thing is to rely on tightening and loosening the mind to eliminate sinking and excitement, thereby finding the weaknesses of samadhi. The key is to realize that when tightening and loosening reach a certain level, there will be no fault of sinking, and when it reaches a certain level, there will be no fault of excitement. The second point is that it is mainly needed for the side of sinking, but it is also useful for any degree of excitement. Sinking refers to when the mind is applied to the state of non-conceptualization and cultivated, the power of memory of its grasping gradually relaxes, and eventually the object is lost or becomes unclear, and the mind (295) becomes dull, which is large or coarse sinking. Even if the object is not lost, but the grasping of the object is not clear, and it remains in a state of non-conceptual sleepiness, this is also subtle sinking, a sinking worthy of offering, which is not stable. Unskilled people also think that the latter is a flawless calm abiding. If this subtle sinking is not eliminated and continues to be cultivated, the longer the cultivation, the less the clarity of the mind will appear, the memory will become dull, and forgetfulness will become severe, etc., which will become a great fault. Therefore, for the method of eliminating this fault, the body posture remains the same, but the line of sight is raised and the eyes look straight ahead, and the mind is released from the previous contracted, depressed, or dull state, making the mind open and spacious, so that sinking can be eliminated. As it is said in the Condensed Perfection of Wisdom: "If you are depressed, you should also raise yourself up." And the Essence of Madhyamika
