Moreover, it is necessary to explain that the foundational Mahamudra of the Sakya school also arises from empowerment. If one does not accept such a foundational Mahamudra, one must abide in the foundation, become familiar with the path, and thereby manifest the fruit. Therefore, it must also be said that there is no Mahamudra of the path or Mahamudra of the fruit. Furthermore, regarding the Mahamudra treatises of Sara (197), Ha the Elder and Younger, Tailo, Naropa, Maitripa, etc., mentioned earlier, as well as the many treatises such as the Seven Classes of Adepts, one would have to engage in the act of abandoning the Dharma. Moreover, those great accomplished masters who composed the treatises would have to be refuted as holders of wrong views. Fourth, to ascertain the nature of this path itself, and how it encompasses the profound meanings of the sutras and tantras. The first of these two is that in some chapters of the Dohas and the Mahamudra transmission, this path tradition is explained as the Secret Mantra Vehicle among the Sutra and Tantra, and on this basis, it is divided into the Path of Blessing, the Path of Breath, and the Path of Direct Realization, the latter being the one in question. It is also said that any kind of empowerment, whether extensive or concise, is necessary as a cause for maturation. And it is considered that the previous vehicles are like steps, not particularly distinguished, but practiced according to circumstances. From the section on secret conduct, according to the three capacities of disciples, lower, middling, and superior (198), it is divided into the Characteristic Perfection Vehicle, the Secret Mantra Vajra Vehicle, and the Unsurpassed Essence Vehicle, and it is considered to be the latter. And it explains the four ways of being not contradictory, not conflicting, in accordance, and particularly superior to the previous two vehicles. However, it also explains that any kind of empowerment and blessing, whether extensive or concise, is necessary, and that the practice of deity yoga is also practiced as appropriate. In this way, it must be included in the classification of the Secret Mantra Vehicle. If one examines the treatises of the Great Brahmin himself, it seems that he considers it to be the Essence Path, a secret path. As it says in the Doha: This is the Great Vehicle, the Unsurpassed Essence Path, because the fruit is taken as the path, it naturally abides in the fruit from the beginning. And it says: Empty of mandala and fire offering, devoid of mantra, mudra, consecration, etc., this Vajra Wisdom, which cannot be accomplished by all the sutras and treatises, is self-

(199) It is beautiful to abide as it is. So it is said. Without tantra, without mantra, without thought, without meditation. All these are the cause of delusion of one's own mind. So it is said. What need is there for lamps, what need is there for offerings to the gods? What is there to do with that, what need is there to rely on secret mantras? So on and so forth, it is said that the path itself is explained as not depending on secret mantras, and it is considered to be something that is free from the three conditions, beyond the four joys, and superior to luminosity. And it also explains the way to rely on the mudra of the consort Dohara karma, and the way to ripen by that power, and the way to practice ascetic conduct, so it is considered that it can be combined with secret mantras if combined. In the words of Jigten Sumgon, in general, among the three paths, taking inference as the path is to examine all dharmas as being separate from one and many, thereby making them without self-nature, and saying that there is no better place to go than this, thereby meditating on it. Taking blessing as the path is to rely on the (200) stage of generating the deity's form, thereby training the channels and winds, and so on. Taking direct perception as the path is the innate Mahamudra. Again, among the three paths, the path of abandoning the base is the Paramita, which is to abandon by making what is to be abandoned and the antidote different. The path of transforming the base is the mantra practitioner, which is to transform the support, generating the body as a deity; transforming the dependent, transforming the senses into vajra and lotus; transforming the dharma, transforming afflictions into the path; transforming thoughts into wisdom; washing away impurities with impurities; cutting off thoughts with thoughts. The path of knowing the base is Mahamudra, which is that there is no object to be abandoned, no antidote, nothing to be transformed, and no transformer, since everything is a magical display of the mind, and the very nature of the mind is primordially unborn, the meaning of which is that the Dharmakaya is inherently present, recognizing and seeing it, and becoming accustomed to it, thereby attaining Buddhahood. Again, there are three paths: those with dull faculties enter the path of accumulation, which is the Paramita. Those with medium thoughts and afflictions enter the path of means (201), which is secret mantra. Those with sharp faculties and wisdom enter the suchness, which is Mahamudra. As it is said, it is considered to be an intermediate path that is separate from both Sutra and Tantra. Sometimes the term "path of blessing" is also used, which is that a lama who possesses realization, for a fortunate disciple in this life
