Of the four appearances: Manifestation of Reality, Enhancement of Experience, Perfection of Awareness, and Exhaustion of Phenomena, the first is the Manifestation of Reality: The very nature of the Dharma of intrinsic ultimate reality, without alteration or corruption, is manifestly present to the senses, relying on the three key points of door, object, and wind, because it possesses the definitive characteristic of being seen directly. Its explanation is that by practicing through the means of the Emanation Body's posture and ways of seeing, etc., in the space of the rainbow light of the expanse, bindus and subtle bindus appear in a threefold connection. The empty spheres are not sometimes visible and sometimes invisible, but when they remain motionless like a cat's eyes, like a vajra thread or a golden thread, like a 'Sharaṇa' slowly moving, and grasping thoughts are liberated in their own place, and extraordinary wisdom arises that engages in hearing and thinking. If one looks at the empty sky, the appearance of the expanse is separated from the upper limit. At that time, the qualities are that the body, like a turtle placed in a shell, does not want to move from its posture, and speech is separated from expression, like the strings of a lute being cut. The mind, like a sky-goer holding onto the heart, awareness merges with clear light and thoughts diminish, these are signs that the power of the vase empowerment has entered the body. The qualities are stated in the Tantra: 'Whoever sees this person, is equal in fortune to the Primordial Samantabhadra.' Thus it is said. The second appearance, the Enhancement of Experience, is: The appearance of the five lights of the expanse, and the appearance of bindus and empty spheres in the form of five clusters, the expanse stretching upwards and radiating like arrow shafts and round clusters, like the tip of a lotus arrow, and appearing in forms such as 'Relde' and broken corners, etc., then becoming as vast as a mountain, sometimes like a drawing with many eyes, like a brocade house, the appearance of the expanse like a mirror, dwelling in a circular fence adorned with bindus, and grasping thoughts dissolving into the expanse, and there is also a 'Lugu Gyud' like bees circling a flower, this is the experience of appearance. The experience of knowledge is the appearance of bliss, clarity, non-thought, emptiness, and roughness. The ultimate transformation is the emptiness form of the ten signs, etc. Deluded appearances are exhausted, and pure appearances are enhanced, therefore it is called Enhancement of Experience. Thereupon, the power of the secret empowerment touches the three doors, and the body is like a man afflicted by disease.

The graceful posture is free from shame; speech is like the rambling words of a madman; the mind's thoughts are completely emptied, like a stream that has run dry. Coarse understanding dissolves into the expanse. Thirdly, when awareness reaches its peak: In the center of the expanse, which appears like a country, in the midst of a cluster of five bindus, first the body appears half, the face half, then fully adorned, and the retinue of the five small families appear together; the five-colored mother lineage appears from the east and remains steadily. At that point, the pure realm reaches its peak and the mandala is completely perfected. The power of the four empowerments allows the body to pass through mountains and rocks unhindered. The words of Dharma transform appearances into the expanse of Brahma. The mind's afflictions are purified into the expanse, and the proliferation of thoughts ceases. The alaya consciousness, too, is sometimes coarse and sometimes subtly continuous. The body becomes clear as light, and by focusing awareness on the appearance of earth and stones, it can be melted; by focusing on inanimate objects, they can be moved and made to speak. Initially, the grossness of both inner and outer is exhausted, so the inner wind and mind reach their peak. The qualities of wind, many siddhis, are accomplished. By mastering the mind, awareness can be directed wherever it is focused, and the sign is that inanimate objects move, there is no affliction, and the need for food and clothing does not arise. In the heart, the light from the syllable A (Tibetan: ཨ, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal meaning: A) is connected to the wrathful deity of conch-shell color and shines brightly, and all the pores appear as Buddhafields. The thread of light from the heart is connected to the hearts of all the Buddhas, and the fingers are entwined with a web of light. When the topknot is lifted by the wind, the rays of light from the wrathful deity pierce the heart. These signs appear. As it says in the Ornament of Clear Realization: 'The body that has reached its peak also transforms in this way. From each atom of the individual's body, the intermediate space appears as a window of light. From that, rays of light in the shape of iron hooks, entwine and sway, holding appearances. The grossness of the body naturally ceases, and the body becomes a clear, stainless body of light. In the center is marked with A (Tibetan: ཨ, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal meaning: A). The light from the hair between the eyebrows is one fathom in length. The topknot appears to be lifted by the wind. The fingers of the peaceful body are completely entwined with garlands of light. Soundless is the activity of the mind. From the palace of the skull on the head, Herukas manifest. At this time, one's own body reaches its peak, and the clear three kayas are united as one.' Thus, the marks and examples from one's own side.
