Like a blazing fire, smoke billowed from their bodies, and they writhed. All of them cried loudly to the Blessed One, and all of them pleaded with the Blessed One, saying: Blessed One, you have uttered extremely unbearable mantra words. Blessed One, the hearts of all of us will no longer waver. Blessed One, all of us are afraid and have become unruly. Blessed One, from now on we will be harmonious. Blessed One, we will make a vow before you. Blessed One, as long as we dwell in the nāga realm, Blessed One, we will not harm beings in Jambudvīpa. We will not be unruly. We will make all the flowers, branches, fruits, and crops flourish. We will make the rain fall at the right times. We will bring happiness and joy. We will make all the crops, flowers, and fruits abundant. We will follow the teachings of the Tathāgata. We will abide by the truth of the vow. We will cherish all beings as if they were our only child. Blessed One, in whatever direction this vidyā queen practices, Blessed One, we will be harmonious there. Blessed One, just by remembering this vidyā queen, all of us nāgas will make the rain fall. Just by remembering her, we can also prevent excessive rainfall. We will not deviate from the teachings of the Blessed One. The Blessed One then spoke the mantra words to prevent misfortune. We will also transform from the birthplace of the nagas to death. Blessed One, at that time, the vidyadhara should recite this mantra of the dharani of binding vows seven times at the very beginning. After that, one hundred and eight mustard seeds should be thrown into the seed of the nagas. Blessed One, at that time, all of our houses will be burned by flames. We will be cut into pieces until we die and only the remains of our bones remain and we are completely liberated. At that time, all of us will quickly send down a stream of rain. If we do not quickly send down a stream of rain, Blessed One, at that time, all of us will be under the control of the time of death. We will die together with our children and grandchildren. Then, the four great kings, including Vaishravana, said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, they have spoken extremely terrible words of the mantra of binding the nagas. They have spoken vows of binding without compassion. The Blessed One said: Great kings, in the future, in the future time, there will be untamed, unruly, fierce, and harmful nagas. At that time, this oath will cause them to be afraid and frightened. They will properly send down a stream of rain from time to time. From time to time, they will produce crops, flowers, and fruits. Then, the great king Vaishravana said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, please explain the ritual in detail. Then, the Blessed One explained the ritual: When it does not rain, he should make a triangular mandala with a mixture of mud and manure on a mountain, a monastery, a temple, a spring, a pond, a lake, a pool, a well, or a pond where nagas live. The center of the mandala should be dug one cubit deep, and the opening should also be one cubit wide. It should be very smooth and very solid.
