Arrogant and conceited from the seat, and in front of poor people, teaching the Dharma in many ways, either praising oneself or slandering others, not for the sake of food, drink, wealth, and fame, this is the Bodhisattva who is skilled in knowing and repaying kindness, explaining the completely pure Dharma. Then, how can one abide in accordance with the Dharma? The actions of body, speech, and mind cultivate virtuous Dharma, possessing complete purity, and knowing and repaying kindness is also the complete manifestation of the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. Furthermore, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva knows and repays kindness, which is to remember the meaning in the heart, to obtain Dharani through much learning, to ignite the lamp of Dharma, and for the benefit and happiness of all sentient beings, to diligently practice generosity, discipline, and much learning. For those who preach the Dharma, one should not find fault with the Dharma of offering and reverence, one should not find fault with preaching and explaining, and giving fearlessness to sentient beings with a harmless and non-injurious mind is called knowing kindness. Experiencing the enjoyment of gods and humans and obtaining the path to liberation from suffering is called knowing and repaying kindness. The Bodhisattva is, furthermore, cultivating patience with four things, completely abandoning what cannot be tolerated, and for the sake of adorning Bodhi, gathering many sentient beings and placing them in the practice of patience, oneself also practices patience, and also places others in the practice of patience, being free from fear, this is called knowing kindness. Because of cultivating patience in this way, the mind of hatred does not arise, therefore possessing a perfect retinue, and because suffering or afflictions do not arise, there is no regret, and even if separated from this body, one can enjoy the enjoyment of gods and humans and obtain liberation from suffering, this is called repaying kindness. Son of the lineage, furthermore, the Bodhisattva initiates diligence with four things, completely abandoning laziness, and gathers all sentient beings for the sake of adorning Bodhi.

Experiencing enjoyment is said to be doing what benefits oneself. When a Bodhisattva exerts effort, they do not harm sentient beings. The absence of beating, scolding, and reprimanding is said to be doing what benefits others. Even after departing from this body, they experience the enjoyments of gods and humans, possessing power and authority. By attaining the path to enlightenment, they will attain great fruit. These are the four aspects of a Bodhisattva's exertion of effort. By meditating on samadhi, a Bodhisattva completely abandons the disturbed mind and gathers all sentient beings for the sake of adorning enlightenment. By meditating on samadhi for the sake of the path to enlightenment, one experiences worldly happiness in this life, and the solitude and peace of body and mind is known as gratitude. Thus, the solitude and peace of body and mind, without harming sentient beings, is known as repaying kindness. When a Bodhisattva departs from this body, they attain a pure body and experience the enjoyment of perfect bliss, attaining complete nirvana. These are the four aspects of a Bodhisattva's meditation. Furthermore, a Bodhisattva who knows and repays kindness, destroys ignorance with wisdom, and for the sake of completely adorning enlightenment, gathers all sentient beings with the four means of gathering. By meditating on wisdom for the sake of enlightenment, one knows and realizes the realm of Dharma, and experiencing the enjoyment of bodily pleasure is said to be for one's own benefit. Generating worldly and transworldly benefits for sentient beings is said to be for the benefit of others. Completely abandoning the two obscurations of afflictions and knowledge is called great fruit. These are the four inconceivable wisdom aspects of a Bodhisattva who knows and repays kindness. Furthermore, a Bodhisattva, with the clairvoyance of remembering past lives, realizes past events with wisdom. Having examined the virtuous and non-virtuous actions of sentient beings, for the benefit and happiness of all sentient beings who are in accordance with virtuous actions, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva rejoices with skillful means.
