He thinks thus: What is the basis of these feelings? What is their origin? What is their kind? What is their cause? The basis of these feelings is contact. Their origin is contact. Their kind is contact. Their cause is contact. If this contact arises, then this feeling will arise; if this contact ceases, then this feeling will cease, become peaceful, become cool, disappear. He thinks thus, if he experiences pleasure, pain, or a feeling that is neither painful nor pleasant, then he fully understands, as it really is, the arising, vanishing, decay, fault, and determination of these feelings. By fully understanding, as it really is, the arising, vanishing, decay, fault, and escape of these feelings, he dwells contemplating impermanence, decay, cessation, and abandonment in all feelings that arise. When he experiences a feeling simultaneous with the body, he fully understands, as it really is, that he is experiencing a feeling simultaneous with the body. When he experiences a feeling simultaneous with life, he fully understands, as it really is, that he is experiencing a feeling simultaneous with life. When life comes to an end, and after the body separates, all his feelings will completely cease here, completely disappear, and be utterly exhausted. He thinks thus: When the body separates, even if he experiences a pleasant feeling, the end of suffering is only this. When the body separates, even if he experiences a painful or neither painful nor pleasant feeling, the end of suffering is only this. When he experiences a pleasant feeling, he experiences non-association, not association. When he experiences pain, and a feeling that is neither painful nor pleasant, he experiences non-association, not association. What is non-association? Non-association with desire, hatred, and delusion. Non-association with birth, aging, sickness, death, sorrow, and lamentation.

and diseases, suffering, discomfort, and confusion, I say that I am not afflicted with suffering. At that time, the venerable Śāriputra, having been fully ordained for half a month, stood beside the Blessed One's robe and fanned the Blessed One with a fan. Then, the venerable Śāriputra thought to himself: The Blessed One only speaks of the experience of those dharmas, only speaks of detachment, only speaks of cessation, only speaks of abandonment. For me, I must also abide by observing the abandonment of those dharmas. It is absolutely necessary to abide by observing detachment, observing cessation, and observing abandonment. Then, the venerable Śāriputra, abiding by observing impermanence in those dharmas, abiding by observing destruction, abiding by observing detachment, abiding by observing cessation, and abiding by observing abandonment, without taking anything, his mind was completely liberated from the defilements. The wandering ascetic Seniya also gave rise to the Dharma-eye, free from dust and defilement, in relation to the dharmas. Then, the wandering ascetic Seniya saw the Dharma, heard the Dharma, understood the Dharma, reached the depths of the Dharma, transcended doubt, transcended hesitation, did not rely on others, was not led by others, and having obtained fearlessness in the teachings of the Teacher, he rose from his seat, draped his upper robe over one shoulder, and, bowing with his palms joined together towards the Blessed One, said this to the Blessed One: Venerable sir, if I am able to go forth and be fully ordained in the well-spoken Dharma-Vinaya, and obtain the state of a bhikṣu, then I would also like to practice the Brahmacarya in the presence of the Blessed One. Then, the wandering ascetic Seniya went forth and was fully ordained in the well-spoken Dharma-Vinaya, and obtained the state of a bhikṣu. Having thus gone forth, the venerable one dwelt alone in solitude, diligent, zealous, and of a nature of renunciation. Dwelling alone in solitude, diligent, zealous, and of a nature of renunciation.

Therefore, for what reason do sons of good families shave their hair and beards, don colored robes, and with only true faith, go forth from home to homelessness, realizing and practicing with their own direct knowledge in this very life that unsurpassed ultimate of the pure conduct, experiencing: My birth is exhausted. The pure conduct has been practiced. What had to be done has been done. I will not know another existence beyond this. Having become all-knowing in this way, that venerable one became an Arhat, with a mind completely liberated. Then, the Blessed One addressed the monks: Monks, among my monastic disciples who have individually attained perfect knowledge, this is the foremost, namely this monk Great Belly. Then, the monks became doubtful. The one who cuts off all doubts, the monks asked the Blessed One Buddha: Venerable one, what deeds did Great Belly do that he became a great speaker of scriptures, and also, having gone forth, directly realized the state of an Arhat? The Blessed One said: Great Belly himself, in other past lives, had accumulated merits and possessed complete conditions, and like a dam bursting, those deeds that come without being eaten, he had done and accumulated. Monks, who else would experience those deeds done and accumulated by Great Belly himself? Monks, deeds done and accumulated do not ripen in the external earth element, nor do they ripen in the water element, fire element, or wind element. Good and bad deeds, having been done and accumulated, ripen only in the aggregates, elements, and sense bases that are grasped. The deeds of sentient beings are Not wasted even for a hundred eons. When the conditions gather and the time arrives, They will ripen into their own fruit. Monks, in the past, in the city of Varanasi, there were five hundred wild men, including a chieftain, who set out to become thieves. After a while, as they went along, they came to a forest of acacia trees, and the leader said: Those with lotus-like eyes, look and see if there are any other people here. They will make offerings to the yaksha for us.
