Lalo. Then, the Blessed One, attended by many great Shravakas, went to a place called "Pleasant Garden." Those people, seeing the Blessed One, fled from each other out of shame. Then, the Blessed One blessed them so that they could not escape in any way. Then, the Blessed One and the great Shravakas entered into cessation meditation. Then, arising from cessation meditation, he transformed himself into an ugly form. After transforming, he also carried a bowl filled with food and went to the place of the ugly one. Then, the ugly one, seeing him, became happy and said: Great friend, where did you come from? Come here! Let's sit together. Then, the Blessed One gave him food, satisfying his senses, and then the Blessed One transformed him into his own form. Then, the ugly one, seeing the Buddha Blessed One, requested: Now that you have become handsome, by the power of what karma have you been transformed? The Blessed One taught: I have a mantra called "Making the Mind Happy," and this is its power. Then, he generated a joyful mind towards the Blessed One and the great Shravakas who had entered into cessation meditation. Therefore, his ugliness disappeared, he became beautiful, and then he renounced and personally attained the state of an Arhat. Then, the monks became doubtful. The one who cuts off all doubts, asked the Buddha Blessed One: Venerable, what deeds did the ugly one do that caused him to become so ugly, unbearable to touch, and possessing eighteen kinds of ugly characteristics? And after renouncing, he personally attained the state of an Arhat? The Blessed One taught: Monks, the ugly one himself, in other past lives, accumulated merit and possessed the necessary conditions, appearing like crossing a raging torrent. Because he did and accumulated those deeds that would not come to naught, how could others experience the deeds done and accumulated by the ugly one himself? Monks, the deeds done and accumulated will not ripen in the external realm of earth, nor will they ripen in the realms of water, fire, and wind, but virtuous deeds

The non-virtuous deeds done and accumulated will only ripen into the aggregates, elements, and sense bases that have been taken. The actions of sentient beings will not be exhausted even in hundreds of kalpas. When the conditions are gathered and the time has come, they will ripen into their own fruit. Monks, in the past, there was a Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Well-Gone, Knower of the World, unsurpassed Guide of beings to be tamed, Teacher of gods and humans, Buddha, Bhagavan, named Victorious (རྒྱལ།), who appeared in the world. After that, he resided near a royal palace. Then, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha Victorious thought, at that time there were two close Bodhisattvas, namely Bodhisattva Shakyamuni and Maitreya. Among them, Maitreya's own continuum was already mature, but those to be tamed were not yet mature; while Shakyamuni's own continuum was not yet mature, but those to be tamed were already mature. Then, in order to mature the continuum of Bodhisattva Shakyamuni, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha Victorious went to the top of the Snow Mountain, entered a precious rock cave, sat in the lotus position, and entered the Samadhi of the Fire Element. At that time, Bodhisattva Shakyamuni, for the sake of fruits and roots, went to the top of the King of Mountains, the Snow Mountain. They met each other, and the Perfectly Awakened Buddha Victorious, whose body was adorned with the thirty-two major marks of a great being, beautified by the eighty minor marks, surrounded by a fathom of light, possessing light surpassing a thousand suns, saw all the goodness like a walking jewel mountain. As soon as he saw him, he stood on one foot for seven days and nights, praised him with one verse, and attained such a focused state of mind: Such an excellent practitioner like you does not exist in the heavenly realms or on earth. There is absolutely none in this world, nor in the palace of Vaishravana. There is also none in the excellent abodes of the heavenly realms, in any direction.

And there are no directions or boundaries. Even if one were to circle the entire earth, abundant with mountains and forests, one could not reach it! Thus he praised. Then, the perfectly complete Buddha King, seeing that the lineage of the Bodhisattva Shakyamuni was fully ripened, gave the word "Excellent!" Holy being, excellent, excellent! Brahmin holy one, today, you have offered excellent praise to the Thus-Gone One. With this power and the perfection of diligence, nine kalpas will be shortened. Thus he spoke. Then, the Bhagavan, attended by those known as great gods, resided in that cave, and there was a god known as a lesser god who resided in that cave, and he could not enter the cave. Then he transformed his eyes into an ugly form and threatened the Bhagavan. He threatened for a long time, but unable to harm the Bhagavan, he gained faith and thought, "This ascetic is a good person, one who has accomplished asceticism." Then he manifested a large body and prostrated at the feet of the Bhagavan, asked for forgiveness, and also offered food. The Bhagavan said, "Monks, what do you think? At that time, at that time, the one who was the god residing in that cave was this ugly one. Due to the ripening of that karma, he experienced endless suffering in samsara, and even now he is ugly for that very reason. Later, he generated a joyful mind, and therefore, his ugliness disappeared, he became beautiful, and then he went forth and directly realized Arhatship. Monks, thus, actions that are definitely black will definitely have a black ripening. Actions that are definitely white will definitely have a white ripening. Actions that lead will also have a leading ripening. Monks, therefore, you should abandon actions that are definitely black and actions that lead, and only rely on actions that are definitely white. Monks, you should train yourselves in this way." After the Bhagavan spoke these words, those monks rejoiced and praised the words spoken by the Bhagavan.
