Having shattered the twenty high peaks of the mountain of viewing the aggregates as real with the vajra of wisdom, he directly realized the fruit of stream-entry. Having seen the truth, he informed his parents and then went forth into the teachings of the Blessed One. Through diligence, practice, and effort, he realized that this wheel of samsara of the five-eyed fool is wavering and unstable. He thoroughly understood that all conditioned phenomena are of the nature of decay, decline, dissipation, and destruction. Having abandoned all defilements, he directly realized the state of an Arhat. The Arhat, having become free from desire in the three realms, possessed a mind that regarded gold and dung as equal, and the sky and the palm of the hand as similar. He became as cool as sandalwood soaked in water, having shattered the shell of the egg with wisdom. He obtained wisdom, supernormal powers, and individual perfect knowledge, not looking to the gains, attachments, and honors of existence. He became a place where the gods, including those with power and their retinues, offered, remembered, and respectfully praised. Then, the monks became doubtful and asked the Buddha, the Blessed One, who cuts off all doubts: 'Venerable Fragrant Pure, what deeds did he do that the scent of blue lotus flowers comes from his mouth, and the scent of sandalwood comes from his entire body?' The Blessed One said: 'Monks, Fragrant Pure himself, in other past lives, obtained the accumulations and possessed the conditions, coming like a flood, and did and accumulated those deeds that would not be devoured by demons. How could others experience the deeds that Fragrant Pure himself did and accumulated? Monks, the deeds done and accumulated will not ripen in the external earth element, nor will they ripen in the water element, fire element, or wind element. The virtuous and non-virtuous deeds done and accumulated will only ripen in the aggregates, elements, and sense bases that are grasped.' The deeds of sentient beings will not be wasted even after hundreds of eons. Once the conditions are gathered and the time has come, they will ripen into their own fruit. Monks, in the distant past, ninety-one eons ago, there was a Tathagata.

The departed Arhat, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, endowed with wisdom and conduct, the Sugata, the knower of the world, the guide of beings to be tamed, the unsurpassed one, the teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha Bhagavan named Vipashyin appeared in the world. He resided in the palace of the relatives, and after a while, the perfectly enlightened Buddha Vipashyin completed all the deeds of a Buddha, and like a fire with exhausted wood, he completely passed into the realm of Nirvana without any remainder of aggregates. Then, King Kinsman made offerings to the relics of the Bhagavan and built a stupa made of four kinds of precious jewels, one yojana in circumference and one yojana in height. He also established the festival of the stupa. A householder also developed faith in it and offered various kinds of incense and unguents, and after offering incense and flowers, he made a prayer: "By this root of virtue, generation of the mind, and the act of completely giving away wealth, may I also obtain such qualities, may I please such a teacher, and may I not displease him." The Bhagavan said: "Monks, what do you think? The householder who was there at that time is this fragrant boy. Because he revered the stupa of the perfectly enlightened Buddha Vipashyin, he has become so fragrant. Because of his prayer, he has realized the state of an Arhat in this life. Monks, therefore, those actions that are definitely black, their ripening will also definitely be black. Those actions that are definitely white, their ripening will also definitely be white. Mixed actions, their ripening will also be mixed. Monks, therefore, abandon those actions that are definitely black and mixed actions, and only rely on those actions that are definitely white. Monks, you should train yourselves in this way." The Bhagavan said.

Having spoken thus, those monks rejoiced and praised the words spoken by the Blessed One. The Hundred Stories of Kanga and Others, Volume Fifteen, "Handsome" is as follows: Kings, great ministers, wealthy people, people of the palace retinue, merchants, navigators, gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas revered the Buddha, the Blessed One, as their teacher, made images of him, and offered him worship. The Buddha, the Blessed One, who was worshiped and known by gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, possessed great merit and obtained robes, food, bedding, cushions, medicine, and medical supplies. Together with the Sangha of Hearers, he resided in the Nyagrodha Grove in Kapilavastu. At that time, in Kapilavastu, there lived a Shakya man who was rich and possessed great wealth, enjoying vast and extensive property, possessing the wealth of Vaishravana, and rivaling the wealth of Vaishravana. He took a wife from the same clan and played and rejoiced with her, feeling happy and content. As he played and rejoiced, his wife became pregnant. When she was eight or nine months pregnant, she gave birth to a son, a boy who was handsome, lovely to look at, and beautiful, surpassing the color of humans, but not yet attaining the color of gods. His body was flawless, his complexion soft, his body had the seven prominences, and he was born as a famous child. Then, they held a celebration for his birth and began to name the boy, saying, "What name should we give this boy?" The relatives said, "Because this boy's body is flawless, we should name this boy 'Handsome'." Then, the boy named Handsome was entrusted to eight nurses: two nurses who fed him on their laps, two nurses who nursed him, two nurses who cleaned his dirt, and two nurses who played with him. These eight nurses fed him with milk, yogurt, butter, ghee, cream, and other excellent provisions.
