I think so. Then that sinner, disregarding the ugliness of the next life, called that monk into the house, closed the door, and made him fast. He also scolded him many times, saying, "Monk, this is how you disrespect me, so don't come to this house again." Then, because he universally practiced and cultivated stinginess, he was born as a hungry ghost, experiencing such suffering. Maudgalyayana's son, therefore, in order to prevent such faults as that hungry ghost woman, one should strive to abandon stinginess. After the Blessed One had spoken thus, the venerable Maudgalyayana's son, as well as gods, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, mahoragas, and others, rejoiced and praised what the Blessed One had said. The so-called "water" refers to the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, who are respected, honored, revered, and offered to by kings, great ministers, wealthy people, palace attendants, merchants, navigators, gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, mahoragas, etc. The Buddha, the Blessed One, who is offered to and known by gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, possesses great merit and has obtained robes, food, bedding, seats, medicine, and medical supplies. Together with the Sangha of Hearers, he dwells and resides in the Radiant Grove of Kalandaka in Rajagriha. Then, as the venerable great Maudgalyayana wandered in the realm of hungry ghosts, he saw a hungry ghost woman, like a burnt tree stump, covered with her own hair, her belly as big as a mountain, but her mouth as small as the eye of a needle, burning, extremely burning, completely burning, with flames blazing, being burned, uttering a painful sound, tormented by thirst, experiencing intense, unbearable, hot, and unpleasant feelings, and as soon as she appeared, rivers and wells would dry up, and whenever

At the time when rain fell, I saw a rain of firewood with sparks flying falling on her. Having seen this, the venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana said to her: 'What evil have you done that you are suffering such pain?' The female preta said: 'Venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana, I am an evildoer. Please report this matter to the Buddha Bhagavān, and he will show you the nature of my actions, and when they hear it, other sentient beings will also abandon evil deeds.' Then, the venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana went to where the Bhagavān was. At that time, the Bhagavān arose from meditative absorption and was teaching the fourfold assembly all that had the taste of Dharma, like unboiled honey. Hundreds of thousands of retinues were also unmoving in their faculties, listening to all that had the taste of Dharma from the Bhagavān. Then, the Buddhas, the Bhagavāns, speak frankly, speak pleasantly, saying, 'Come! Welcome!' They used to smile before. There, the Bhagavān said to the venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana: 'Maudgalyāyana, come! Welcome! Where have you come from just now?' Maudgalyāyana reported: 'Venerable, I have come back from wandering among the pretas. There, I saw a female preta, like a tree trunk touched by fire, covering herself with her own hair, her belly as big as a mountain and her mouth as small as the eye of a needle, blazing and blazing intensely, completely blazing, the flames blazing as one, uttering sounds of burning and distress, tormented by thirst, experiencing feelings that were intense, unbearable, hot, and unpleasant, and just by seeing her, rivers and wells would dry up. At the time when rain fell, I saw a rain of firewood with sparks flying falling on her.' The Bhagavān said: 'Maudgalyāyana, that female preta is an evildoer. Do you want to hear about the nature of her actions?' 'Venerable, I want to hear.' 'Maudgalyāyana, then listen well and keep it in mind, and I will tell you.

In this very auspicious eon, when the life span of beings reaches twenty thousand years, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, complete in knowledge and conduct, Well-Gone, Knower of the World, Guide of beings to be tamed, Unsurpassed, Teacher of gods and humans, Buddha, Bhagavan named Light Protector will appear in the world. When he was dwelling in the Deer Park at the Isipatana in Varanasi, a certain bhikshu was walking on the road and was afflicted by thirst. He went to a well and saw a girl sitting there filling a pot with water. The bhikshu said to her, "Sister, I am afflicted by thirst, please give me some water." She, always clinging to possessions, became miserly and said to the bhikshu, "Bhikshu, my pot will be diminished. Even if you die, I will not give you water." Then the bhikshu, afflicted by thirst, went away in despair. Then that girl constantly cultivated and meditated on miserliness, and having done so much, she died and was born as a preta. She experienced such intense, unbearable, hot, and unpleasant feelings. Maudgalyayana's son, therefore, one should train like this: one should strive to abandon miserliness. Maudgalyayana's son, you should train like that. The Bhagavan having spoken thus, the venerable great Maudgalyayana's son and the gods, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, mahoragas, and others rejoiced and praised what the Bhagavan had said. One hundred stories, including that of Gangpo, eleventh volume, called the Outer Vessel: The Buddha Bhagavan was honored by kings, great ministers, wealthy people, people of the palace entourage, merchants, captains, gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, mahoragas, and others. They were revered, respected, esteemed, and offered to. And the gods, nagas, yakshas, and asuras.
