Became. Monks, the deeds done and accumulated will not mature in the external realm of earth, nor will they mature in the realm of water, fire, or wind. The good and bad deeds done and accumulated will only mature in the aggregates, realms, and sources that are grasped. The deeds of sentient beings will not disappear even in hundreds of kalpas. Once accumulated and the time is ripe, they will mature into fruit. Monks, in the past, there was a Tathagata, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha, perfect in knowledge and conduct, Sugata, knower of the world, tamer of beings, unsurpassed, teacher of gods and humans, Buddha, Bhagavan, named Delightful Giver (བདེ་མཛད།), who appeared in the world. After wandering, he came to a royal palace. The king, who was enthroned from the crown of the royal family, heard the news that the Samyaksambuddha Delightful Giver had come to the vicinity of the royal palace after wandering. Upon hearing this, possessing great royal wealth and power, he went to where the Bhagavan Samyaksambuddha Delightful Giver was. Upon arriving, he bowed his head at the feet of the Samyaksambuddha Delightful Giver and sat to one side. After sitting to one side, the king, who was enthroned from the crown of the royal family, had the Samyaksambuddha Delightful Giver teach the Dharma to attain Bodhi. Afterwards, the king became very happy and invited the Samyaksambuddha Delightful Giver to the royal palace, offered food with a hundred flavors, and also offered invaluable clothes. He also built a Nirvana Stupa with a circumference of one yojana and a height of one krosha. Monks, what do you think? The person who became king at that time was me. I made such offerings to the Samyaksambuddha Delightful Giver, and therefore I experienced boundless happiness in samsara, and for that very reason, it is the same now.

Since he had passed away, King Image Wise also made such offerings. Monks, therefore, you should train yourselves in this way: you should respect the teacher. You should revere him. You should honor him. You should make offerings to him. Having respected the teacher, revered him, honored him, and made offerings, you should dwell in reliance upon him. Monks, you should train yourselves in this way. Having spoken thus, the Blessed One, the monks rejoiced and greatly praised what the Blessed One had said. What is called divine food is that the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, are respected by kings, great ministers, wealthy people, people of the royal palace, merchants, captains, gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas. They are revered, honored, and offered to. The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, who are offered to and known by gods, nagas, yakshas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas, possess great merit and have obtained robes, food, bedding, seats, medicine, and medical supplies. Together with the Sangha of Shravakas, they dwell and reside in the Kalanda Grove, the Radiant Garden in Rajagriha (present-day Rajgir, Bihar). There, a wealthy merchant, rich in wealth and great in enjoyment, possessing vast and extensive holdings, possessing the wealth of Vaishravana, competing with the wealth of Vaishravana, and delighting in heretics, was converted by the Venerable Maha Maudgalyayana. Having been placed in the teachings, he became very pleased with the Blessed One. That householder was also one who was fond of great things. He said to the Venerable Maha Maudgalyayana: "I wish to make offerings to the Blessed One, please be my friend." The Venerable Maha Maudgalyayana did not say anything to that householder and agreed. Then, the Venerable Maha Maudgalyayana took that householder and went to where the Blessed One was. Having arrived, he bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One,

They stayed together. After staying together, the venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable one, this householder wishes to offer umbrellas to the Blessed One and the Saṅgha of Śrāvakas, please, Blessed One, grant this out of compassion for him." Then, the Blessed One did not say anything to that householder and granted it. Then, that householder, knowing that the Blessed One had granted it by not saying anything, arranged food with a hundred flavors, flowers, incense, garlands, and unguents. Then, the venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana urged Indra, the lord of the gods, saying: "Please be a helper to this householder." Then, Indra, the lord of the gods, transformed the grove of light, the place where the Kalandaka birds dwell, into the Joyful Grove. He also brought thousands of elephants resembling the son of Earth Protector and Ratna, and those elephants held umbrellas with a hundred ribs over the Saṅgha of monks headed by the Buddha. He also brought thousands of goddesses such as Bliss, and those goddesses fanned the Saṅgha of monks headed by the Buddha with jewel-handled fly-whisks. He also brought thousands of Gandharvas such as Great Joy, Five-Crested Youth, and Tumburu, and those Gandharvas played various kinds of music. He also mixed the ambrosial food of the gods. Then, that householder, having served and honored the Blessed One with the belongings of gods and humans, prostrated his whole body at the feet of the Blessed One and made the aspiration: "By this root of virtue, this generation of bodhicitta, and this complete giving of the Dharma, may I become a Buddha who leads the blind world without a guide and without a complete guide, liberating beings who have not been liberated, freeing those who have not been freed, giving breath to those who have not been given breath, and completely releasing those who have not completely escaped from sorrow." Then, the Blessed One knew the cause of that householder, which continued one after another, and the action, which continued one after another.
